130 yards......- I know that it's short, but I don't have any trouble getting on G.I.R.
Adams: Standard loft, length and lie. Senior shafts
Guess I should add my height and weight, then I have an excuse for hitting so small lol.
Height: 5'7" - I'm sure I'm that height, maybe a little shorter, we measure in cm.
Weight: about 105 lbs
6"3, Callaway x16 standard 7 iron, On a good day I can whack it about 150-160. On a typical December day in St.Andrews into the wind I'd be better of kicking the ball :)
You can still be short and hit it long.
Cannonica leads the driving distance on the European Tour and is
only about 5'6". 310+ yds.
I was next to Lee Rhind (europro tour & well under 6') at the range,
i was hitting it over the fence and then he stepped up and hit it to
the next town.
As for blade v cavity.... blades will hit it the same distance as cavity
on centre strikes. Off centre shots will lose more distance with blades.
Modern blades (mp33's 37's, 690s etc) have closed this gap a little.
i'm 5'8 & 170lbs, & i'm not sure how far i hit it. my old 7i (x-16pro) 130-140. i've only played 2 rounds with my new sticks. probably about the same. maybe a little farther cause they're so easy to hit sweet & a nice little draw with the offset. it'll be a little more encouraging once it warms up & dries out.

I dated (and competed against) a young lady when I was in high school. She would always hit her 5-wood from 150 yds and some of the guys would snicker about her "lack" of distance. There were times when it bothered her and we would talk about it but the one thing I kept reiterating to her was the fact that the guys might have been hitting their 7-irons to 20-30 feet but her 5-wood was with 10 feet and money everytime. Oh yeah, you might have heard her name at some point...Vicki Goetz (too bad I let that one get away).
This hang-up on distance baffles me. I can understand it from very low handicappers trying to get those extra few yards, but for the rest of us it's really irrelevant. This is especially true for our irons. Hit 'em straight. Make consistant contact. Know how far you hit 'em. Many years ago when I was carrying about a 12 I used to play with a buddy and a 65-year-old neighbor lady of his. She played all the time and couldn't hit it over 150 if her life depended on it, but the only time she visited the rough was walking to the next tee. She cleaned my clock every time.

This is why I don't think longer distance (drives, stronger lofted irons) has hurt the game. You still have to get the ball IN THE HOLE! THAT is the challenge in golf, not hitting long tee shots. ACCURACY is the important part of golf and no one markets a club because it is accurate, only because it is LONGER.
