I hit the mother of all slices few weeks ago. The ball landed not in the next fairway, but the fairway next to it! Somehow, I managed to scramble for a bogey. I hit the green w/ my 3rd shot with a choked 3W from an awkward (the ball was way above my feet) lie in between the next two adjacent fairways.

Any good scrambling stories?
noobie - thats what is so great about this game - no matter how bad you've done, there's gonna be a bunch of people who have done much worse.
You only flew one adjacent fairway? I've bounced balls off of rooftops at least a fairway away at courses that wind through golf communities! I've pioneered through many an adjacent fairway trying to find a path through trees and bushes in an attempt to get to my green. In an odd sort of way, getting a bogey through creative scrambling is more rewarding than a boring par sometimes.
Nice recovery noobie. Oh my, I've hit it at least 100 yards sideways more times than I can remember. They all sort of blend together into one big stomache-churning blur. I've made some nice recoveries... none stands out right now. I'll think of one & post later. Good idea for a thred. :nodsmiley

I know exactly what you mean. Shot making is what makes golf so enjoyable for me. I forgot to mention that on that scramble, I had to hit an intentional cut/slice to bend around a tree which was blocking direct sight to the pin.
We have a saying in our playing group that a double bogey is the most frustrating score because that means that
1) you didn't tee off well
2) you didn't scramble well
3) you didn't putt well
I don't hit that many terrible slices, but here's a story i enjoy telling. I was on the range with about 7 people around me. I pulled my Cleveland Quadpro Driver and teed a ball up. Now this driver is REALLY small and I made the mistake of teeing it up too high. I went through my routine and swung. I heard something make impact but the ball was nowhere to be found. I was squinting into the distance when I heard a THUMP a few yards behind me. I turned around and walked over to where I heard the thump and sure enough there was my ball buried deep into the ground.
Luckily, only 2 people saw it. One had a good laugh and the other just smiled and went back to hitting his irons. Now I have a TM R580 which is a good deal larger than the Quadpro so I really don't have to worry about embarrasing myself that much unless I shank the ball like i tend to do from time to time.
I must be very special then, because I've done 2 out of 3 of those well on numerous occassions and still managed to double or worse.
LOL. I usually put down my total strokes and number of putts for each hole I play. I've had plenty of holes when I write down 7 or 8 and then put down a 1 below it
On a dogleg left par 5 I pulled my drive really bad and somehow managed to thread the woods and end up in the other fairway at least 100 yards off line. the hole doglegs so hard that I actually hit the ball straight at the flage. I took a guess at the distance and hit an 8 iron to about 10 feet, missed the eagle put but tapped in for birdie
sometimes if im on the next fairway and theres no one on the fairway and theres a tree blocking my next shot, ill just keep playing down the fairway until i have a clean shot to the green. usually have to hit an iron to the tee box, and pitch it to the green.
I can recall drop-kicking a drive into the right rough and having to slice an 18 degree hybrid around a large growth of trees that were cutting off the dogleg of a LONG par 4. It was probably the best 185yd slice of my life. Hit the green and 2 putted for par.
Well I saw something today that I've never seen before. I was on a very short par 4 (~290) which doglegs right. The guys behind us decide to tee off when we're on the green and we hear two loud screams "Fore!" I look up and see a ball land on the adjacent green in between four guys who were putting! I overheard the guys commenting "that guy has a closer putt than all of us here."
I've scrambled quite a few creative pars - most recently, playing my course's first hole...
Drive sliced wildly right onto the 9th green. Took the drop, sliced a 6iron onto the tee box that the 8th/16th holes share. The ball was in the hedge between the tees, marked GUR. Took the free drop onto the tee box, floated a lovely lob wedge to 6 feet and drained the putt - THAT was satisfying!
Have also made par from the wrong green, 225 yards over trees, with a 7 wood and a kind bounce...
