Whats the record for longest drive?

I am peeking around the net here at work and was wondering who has the title of longest drive? I see all the Hammer commercials with whats his name, but it doesnt say anything about a current record

I believe there was a guy on the PGA Tour who hit one 550 yards sometime...there was a member here who posted about him twice and then left (I think it was him actually trying to bring up some publicity on himself ), but I'll see if I can find the guy's name.

His name was Mike Austin, and it was 515 yards. I don't believe anyone in the REMAX competition has hit one farther than that either. Here's the thread I got that from:

long drive record

Thanks for the research, I found the homepage for the long drive championship. I was asking in regards to a friend of mine. His drives avg around 340's-355 yrds with hi longest being an "unofficial" 376 at a long ball competion here in Ohio. I had no idea guys toured around doing this

Anyways, Im trying to convince him to try these competitions but hes too modest and politely declines!

I think in the Ginuess book the longest drive is over 600 yards. Granted this guy did hit the cart path a few times, but hey it counts.

I think I read about that deron. He was on a 360 yard par 4 and it rolled down a cartpath 300 and some odd yards past the green or something. Not often you could say you ended up farther from the hole after your drive than when you started without hitting it backward.

i've seen Mike Austin on the golf channel hard to believe that he was 64 at the time of the shot in 1974 , the interview i saw he was well in his 80's and his swing was a smooth as silk .

I'll be happy just to be alive and playing when I'm 80.

My father works with a person whose brother has the record for the longest hole in one. Apparently it was a downwind 520 yard part five, hit two patches of rocks and rolled into the hole. Amazing story really.
