I am terrible from 100 yards and in

Today I played a nice course. I hit everything off the tee GREAT! There were probably nine occasions today that my drive was straight down the middle and 100 yards or less in and I did not hit the green on any shot, not even close and ended up bogey or worse. Heck, one hole which was 333 yards long. I put my drive pin high 10 feet off of the green to the left and what did I do??? Came up short on my secdond shot. TEN FEET FROM THE GREEN AND I CAN'T PUT IT ON...ANYWHERE TO EVEN GIVE MYSELF A CHANCE FOR BIRDIE! I think I ended up shooting 83, but easily could have been much much better. Its so frustrating. I don't know what it is with this...I've struggled all year, granted its still early, but my SW is letting me down! lol.

Anyone else just fed up with their short game? I'm going to be practicing 100 yards and in like a mad man for the next month or so!

There is a guy that practices at my course that plays professionally in South America. He only practices from 65-100 yards.

I normally practice some...but evidently not as much as I should be! Not for long though. I'm getting ready to buy a range membership to a local course and I'm going to get unlimited balls and just hit wedge, after wedge, after wedge, after wedge!

I see you are going the Vijay Singh route of practice. Not that I should say anything because I have the same exact problem

My scoring has gotten so much more consistent once I improved my wedge game. Just curious, what type of shots do you struggle with? Tight lies? Pitch shots? Chips?

i have lots of issues with around 70 yards and in. I have such terrible distance control, something I am gonna start working on as soon as I can. I always hit over the green, never short. It's very frusturating. I started trying to implement the Dave Pelz clock method...haven't had enough practice to gauge any distances, but I like the idea of it.

Well as of yesterday it became 100 yard SW shots. For whatever reason which I just found out yesterday I cannot hit my SW 100 yards anymore. I can hit a driver 300, but a SW only about 70. I'm doing something wrong here. Like I said in the original post. I had about 9 drives that left me right around the 100 yard marker yesterdy playing and I either came up short on every shot or it was just an errant shot to the right or left and still short. I even Sh##ked one. I think I'll just use my driver to drive, pitch, chip, and putt with cause it seems like its the most consistant club in my bag right now!

a 35.50 inch club with a 9wood head maybe your answer to replace the wedge. if you can place it out there 300yds, you don't need much more, lol.

Buy the Dave Pelz "Short GAme Bible". This book has done wonders for my short game.

IN fact - I ALWAYS carry a business card with me with my yardages written down - looks like this:

Swing: 7:30 pm 9:00 pm 10:30 pm
LW: 18-20 35-40 50-55
SW: 25-30 45-55 70-80
PW: 40-50 65-75 95-100

I attended one of the Pelz one day clinics, and it really helped. They tour around the country, so check to see when the next one is going to be in your area.

If you can't hit a SW 100 yards anymore, then don't try to. I occasionally hit mine 100 yards so I kept thinking I could. Like I said occasionally I could, and most of the time I came up short. So I bought a 50 degree wedge and swing much easier and smoother for 100 yard shots. Much improved!

80% of scoring is played in from 100 yards.

I practice my wedge game everyday, it pays off to practice, practice, practice.
I feel comfortable with any distance I have from 100 yards in.

My short game = ......It's awful as well. The sad thing is, I do practice mine quite a bit. I'll hit 3-5 buckets of balls on the range with my wedges to which I have some success, but once I hit that course, all that I know goes out the window...I guess it goes back to that thread about being a range pro...

Sounds like you may be taking too big a swing with your SW. I would make sure you are making crisp contact. I too have had similar issues with my SW and hit 280+ drives. I found my swing for my SW was as long as my driver. Once I changed that (by trying to take 1/2 swings which were actually 3/4 swingss), I hit my SW 115 to 120 or so.
