Golf in North Korea?

In the new issue of Golf Digest there's an interesting article about a golf trip to North Korea. I thought it's a nice look at golf in a country that's normally closed off, particularly to Americans. (I guess that's the Geography major in me :nodsmiley ) One thing I was really surprised to learn that they have 2 golf courses in the country...

But the funny thing is according to the article the best golfer in the world is not Tiger, Vijay, Ernie or Phil. It's Kim Jong Il....I guess, in his only round of golf, shot a 34. That's 38 under par!!! With 5 holes-in-one... I guess that's what having a good PR man and a million man army can do for you.

LOL

I've played in South Korea, they really take their golf seriously over there. They'll come all the way over from 3 fairways away to call you out for adjusting your lie or using your foot wedge.

I read about that a while ago. I think he got a hole in one... or two. I guess to shoot 34, that would be sixteen 2's and two hole in ones but who knows... he could have gotten a couple of gasp... 3's!

The only people in North Korea who have enough food to eat and thus the energy to play golf are in either the military or Kim Jong Il's inner circle. It's a wonder that they have any courses at all now. I'm surprised that Kim didn't have the courses bulldozed under after he played his round so that nobody else would ever have any chance to beat his "record"!
