I used the Nike One Platinum for one round now. It is just as long as the black...may be a little longer because you get a higher ball flight. The spin on the green is a ton. I was spining the ball all day long. The spin is not as bad as the Callaway HX Tour but it spins more then the Black. I would call it a middle ground between the Pro V1 and the V1x....but longer then the V1x.
Just played a round with these yeasterday. First off there long, in the same leauge as the ProV, probably a little longer. They still can generate a ton of spin though so around the greens you dont louse anything. Plus there durable enough that you can use one for a whole round and not have to worry about destroying them.
I finally got my hands on a dozen last week. Played a round with them yesterday and liked them alot. They seem to have less spin off of the driver then the HX Tour and Pro V1, I also hit my two longest drives of the year yesterday. I liked the spin and performance around the green, but perferred the feel of the Pro V1 more. I can over look the feel for now and say these are more new ball unless the HX 56 beats them out.
I have had the chance to play several rounds with them now. They are longer then the ProV1 and the V1x. They spin more then the X on the green and less off the driver then the Pro V1. They spin less on the green than the HX Tour and they are longer than the HX Tour. They are as long as the Nike One Black but they spin more ion the green. They are longer then the Bridgestone B330 and B330s and the spin on the green is better then the B330s. They are a great ball. They will be in my bag for some time.
I've been a Titleist guy since I started playing, but there's no ignoring the additional driving distance and playability of this ball and I switched last month.
I'll switch back to Titleist if they come up with something comparable, which I'm sure they will (bet all the golf ball companies are scrambling to make their own version).
Good ball!
The ball flight is a little high with the driver for me which makes it a wicked ball for calm, damp days! I did not like it as much on firm fast greens though. The ball seemed to lose its spin on the first hop & release more than I am used to. It is still better than the black or gold.
What has been your experience with the durability of these balls?
I have found the One Platinum to be more durable then both the Pro V1 and HX Tour, my wedges would destroy these balls if I took too many full wedge shots during the round. I think the Platinum may be able to last 2 or three rounds if I keep it off of the cart paths.
I tried these and they have to be one of the best Ive ever played, added 10 yds to my drives and great feel with my irons and around the greens, but like boomer said I don't like the feel when putting.
I love this ball!!! Its my favorite right now!!! And I have a lot of favorites!
Well, considering this is supposed to be a review....
Driver: Long. Perhaps a tad longer than the HX's, Hogans and Prov's. And I find that it is much more controllable. Easier to keep in the fairway, and draws and fades are easier to hang on to. I don't know if the ball is easier to hang on to because of less sidespin, but I find that if I do make a big mistake, at least the slice isn't as bad as a ProV1, HX Blue, or Hogan Apex Tour Red.
Irons: crisper than the ProV1. About the same in feel as a ProV1x. Very solid. Once again, very controllable, and I love the trajectory. I find that I get very consistent distances. Spin isn't quite as high as some balls, but I find that with a solid wedge on a softer green I stop the ball with six inches. I even brought the ball back 2 feet w/a sand wedge the other day. Doesn't have nearly as much backspin as a HX Blue, but then again, I don't think a single ball out there does...
Wedges: Just tops on full shots. No suprises, unless you mess up. I find that at times ProV'1 spin a little unexpectedly, but I love the way this ball checks up. Also, chips are firm, but solid. Not too hard, like so many previous Nike premium balls.
Putting: Just as good as any premium ball on putting. Soft, but solid.
Durability: Unfortunately, I only got 5 holes before I had tore the cover in three spots. The last was pretty serious. But it was performing so well, I just kept playing it. I found that it scuffs, but not to the point where it messes up your putting. I does decrease yardage by maybe 2 or 3 yards on drives when it gets scuffed, but nothing you'd notice. Unlike a ball like the Hogan Black, it doesn't send nearly as many cover particles out at funny angles. However, I think it might scuff a little bit more easily than the ProV1's/xs, which does bother me.
Overall: In my opinion, best ball for your money right now. Even with the scuffing, its a great value. Also, really good golfers, those who are much better than me, will probably find that the performance they receive from this ball is even more impressive that what I have observed! I highly recommend that you try them out!
