You should have played the platinum for the feel.

Platinum is a much BETTER ball than the Black.

This old guy is playing from the 'back' tees tomorrow. I will play a Nike Platinum for the first time (usual V1 or V1x in reserve). Received a sleeve of Platinum's from a fellow Senior today. Will post a report/opinion, late tomorrow.

Just got back from playing and I played the Platinum for 9 and another guy played it for the back nine. JMO

Is it a premium golfball?....Yes
Is it better than Titleist V1 or x....?.......No

Nike has proven their serious effort in golf equipment with their clubs and their golfballs. Both players found the feel and action to be fine. Driving or putting, the Nike Platinum did the job. For myself, playing from the back tees was hard enough..LOL and the fact that I forgot what ball I was using, says something about the Nike.

Hope this test helps.

I just heard about Tiger going home. Earl must be really bad. Prayers for a fine soldier.

I finally got up the guts to pay over $35 for a dozen balls and took the plunge on the Platinums. I've been playing DT Solo's the last 2-3 years and I was ready for a change. We finally had a gorgeous day here in snOhio so I took the day off work and headed to the course. Upon arriving I was shocked, there was no one on the course, not 1 person, so the guy told me $10 for all I could play. Alright, Enough chit chat lets get to the golf.

The first 18 I played both the Platinum and DT/Solo. The first crack of the Platinum with the driver I was very impressed, long with a slight fade and same with the DTSolo and that's how it was most of the day with the Platinums out-driving the DTSolo's on an average of 5-7 yards. With the irons the distances were about the same maybe 1-3 yards longer in favor of the Platinums, the difference came in the spin category. At 150 out with a slight breeze at my back I hit an 8 iron, the DTSolo hit 2 ft short of the pin, took a huge hop (5 feet maybe) and rolled another 5ft. I was heated because it was the first time that day I felt nothing at impact. I hit the same shot with the Platinum, it hit 1 foot right of the pin, hopped a foot and stopped. I was very pleased with that and it did the same thing with a 6 iron later in the day.

The 2nd 18 I played just the Platinum, concentrating on my round and swing and overall I was very impressed with the performance of the ball. 1 ball lasted me 13 holes. With the Callaway HX Red I'm lucky to get 7 or 8 holes without ripping the cover off the ball.

The ball flight of the Platinum was pretty boring, but the spin off the driver I found to be pretty low which is what I wanted. I was controlling it very well with my wedge and chipping is very comfortable for me with this ball. It has some check to it when chipping around the green and that also was a characteristic I was looking for. This ball makes putting easy. What a great feel of the face of the the putter. I controlled my distances very well with my putter and I usually don't do that this early in the season, but when you're confident with your equipment it changes everything.

If you have not had a chance to try this ball, borrow one from a freind or see if you local course will loan you one out of the clubhouse because this one is a keeper for me.

The Platinum is a fine ball. Earlier this year I went searching for a premium ball that was a little cheaper than the Pro V1. So far I have played the Nike Platinum, Callaway HX Tour 56, and the Srixon ZUR-S. All three are very fine balls.

The Nike and Callaway fit my game the best of the three.

What about the Gold?

The Gold was discontinued... i believe prior to the release of the Platinum. It was a softer alternative to the Black.

The One Platinum's are nice. They're long and soft and I was able to control the trajectory quite nicely.

Only played 1 round with the platinum. Can't compare it to last years, but It's a great ball. Wish i could afford em full-time, but when half your drives go into the woods.. Reminds me of the Hx-hot and the Bridgestone ball. My first shot ever with this ball landed right next to the pin and barely moved from the massive dent it left in the green (a rarity for me). Its got a soft feel, but still carries quite a ways with the driver. The ball seems heavier than most, evident while putting and driving.
