You mean the old XL's that came in high, mid, and tour trajectory? Those balls were good! Good feel, great distance and it seemed like they repelled sidespin!

The only real change from then to now is the lower compression. That D2 dimple technology is a gimmick. They're decent balls, nonetheless.

Re: Top Flight D2 Golf Ball Review

I was given a box from friends for my birthday a few days ago, and played 9 holes with the D2 Straight, and 9 with a NXT (my regular ball). The distance was comparable and the "straight" factor - if you slice, the ball will slice. It may be slightly more forgiving than the NXT.

Feel for the D2 was quite good, comparable with the NXT, but the short game is where the D2 started to lack. I had a hard time getting the ball to check/slow down on short pitches and chips. Putting, the feel was great. As for rolling, i have no idea because they had just aerated the greens.

Overall, a good ball for the price but be cautions around the greens. I'm undecided if I'm going to continue to use them, or give them to my TopFlite loving friend.

The Feel version was the surprise of the year for me. I received a free sample in the mail and ended up buying a 15 pack.
The distance was good and they were consistent quality from ball to ball.

Good ball for the money, I tired them for a few rounds and althou they aren't the greatest around the greens, but for a about buck a ball, they are a good value....

Re: Top Flight D2 Golf Ball Review

I am using some of the D2 Distance balls right now and they seem to be pretty decent balls. I kind of wish I had bought the Feel version, tho. I might try them next. But for the money, I think the new D2 is a good ball.

Re: Top Flight D2 Golf Ball Review

I have played the d2 feel a couple of times this week. I can't find much wrong with them, on full shots or short-game shots. (I should probably mention that I have played them with irons & wedges only.) I have carpet-putted them all winter, and I never liked them much then, but this week on the actual greens I enjoyed putting them just fine.

The covers hold up nicely, and at $1 per ball it isn't the end of the world to lose one either!
