Wilson Zip

Rate and review the Wilson Zip here.

Following along the lines of Wilson's 50/50 ultra-low compression ball from '07, Wilson released a "zero" compresion ball called the Zip. Golf Digest tagged it a gold pick for '08 it will be interesting to see how golfers actually embrace it.

I really liked the feel around the greens of the 50/50 put wasn't satisfied with distance off the tee. And after one round, its skin was really torn up like it had hit too many cart paths. I'm hoping the Zip beats it out otherwise I'll be sticking with the D2 Feel (or Gamer) for '08.

Re: Wilson Zip

I tried these a month or so ago. Lots of spin, but no distance. They play very similar to the 50, but seem to spin a little more. I like them on the 9 hole par3 course we have locally, but I don't plan on using them on "big" courses anymore.

Re: Wilson Zip

The core is very soft but the cover is still hard.
The ball is like the 50/50 and spins a bit more like Zakthan. I did not like them both because they bloomed up on my drive and lost distance.
TopFlite Gamer is a much better golf ball for me, I do think anyone with SS below 80 will benefit greatly on these Wilson super soft golf balls.

Re: Wilson Zip

I played this ball for 2 rounds this week. Like the fiftly, this ball has a very 'interesting' dimple pattern. Huge flat dimples, with very shallow ridges between them. With the sun on them you can see sparkling reflections from a new ball as if it is a diamond! The putting feel is lovely, but the ball did not seem to want to settle down on relatively steeply inclined portions of the green, presumably because of the lack of protruding ridges. It seems very unstable in its lie on an inclined green. On several occassions the ball seemed to roll back when I was fully expecting it to come to a stop, and on another occasion the ball suddenly moved when I was about to putt it.

I liked them fine otherwise, but I will be delighted when I finally lose the leftovers.

Re: Wilson Zip

I'm not long off the tee (longest was 290, avg 225ish) because of an assumed slow swing speed so I've grown accustom to the softer Zips, 50/50s, & PX3s especially around green. The price is right at the top of what I'm willing to pay so I'll use them until I run out of the 3 models and then I'll see about continuing with them. Though that might take a while because I'm down to losing less than one ball per round and I've got a combined several dozen.
