I picked up some of the new platinums sunday but havent got to play them yet. They have a softer feel to them, even my father said they felt like the older balata balls. I wish they had went with a more aggressive putting line. It just has one platinum and red arrows on the ends. I have a 3 day weekend so i will play at least once this weekend weather permiting and will post a better review. Any one played these yet?
I try alot of new brands every year, but always come back to these. If you need putting lines, just use a marker.
The spin off the irons is phenominal. You can spin it left, right , forward or backward. The only draw back is that you can lose about 30 yds on the drives. But if your iron play is good, and your driveing 280, then you should have no problem.
No problems either with scuffing from spin milled wedges like pro Vs or Taylormade TPs
These are busy days in the public-apology department at Gaffe, uh, Golf Channel. First Dottie Pepper choked the dogs, then Kelly Tilghman lynched Tiger Woods. Now Nick Faldo has nuked Nike.
On the air on Sunday, Faldo referred to the test results in Golf Magazine's February cover story "Revealed: The Best Ball For You!" that showed that under launch conditions meant to replicate the swing of the average hacker (90-mph swing speed, 13.75-degree launch angle, 2,900 rpm) the TaylorMade TP Black produced 259.1 yards of carry and roll compared with 239.1 yards for the Nike One Platinum. Faldo said the Nike ball "fell out of the sky." Not exactly.
On Monday, Golf Channel apologized because Faldo had failed to mention that the Golf study not only includes evidence that the One Platinum performs better as swing speeds increase but also that Nike had asserted in the magazine that its ball is designed for Tiger, who swings at a blazing 125-plus mph. (See full results of the Golf study)
Equally egregious, Faldo neglected to disclose that last Thursday he had signed an endorsement deal with TaylorMade. Woods, apparently content to let Sunday's results speak for themselves, has yet to weigh in.
I can't quite crank out Tiger speeds with the club, but I've always liked the Platinum. I've never had a complaint about it's distance. If anything, I get too much spin with it, but when the greens get really crispy during the summer, they're great.
With 105-110 swing speed, ive never had a problem with the platinums, they play longer for me then the pro v1 and v1x and i use to play those all the time. Still havent gotten to hit the 08's though, im finishing out my stash of the 07's. Sad thing is ill probably play the new callaways before the platinums, decisions decisions LOL.
Finally got to play the 08's yesterday. The only difference i could feel is they had a little bit more spin to them. Its still the great ball ive come to love. Im still wishing they would have put a bigger putter line on it.
I haven't tried the 08s yet, but me, being a 90s golfer, I really noticed a ton of difference with the spin (which i seemed to never be able to generate) I guess all the money playing is paying off (hardly) but I have improved a bit from last year already. I am buying a dozen this weekend.
