Top Flite Freak

I played 18 with this ball today, and I liked it. It has good distance and very little sidespin for me. I'd say its as effective as the Bridgestone E6 at straightening out ball flight. It has a firm cover with a soft core, so those of you that like the soft cover for putting probably won't like it. I get good "hop-and-stop" performance with it, but I hit down on the ball very hard, so I can get spin off pretty much anything. I imagine anyone who "sweeps" the ball will find it runs quite a bit for them. The greens were fairly firm today, with my 50 and PW on full swings the ball stopped 6 inches from the mark. With a full 7 iron it stopped within 18 inches. Again, your mileage may vary depending on how steep your swing is.

Overall, from me. I really liked this ball and for 16 bucks a dozen, I think its a great alternative to balls like the NXT.

Re: Top Flite Freak

I was thinking of trying the Freak and comparing it to the Pinnacle FX Long (long drive ball) in terms of raw distance and straight flight. I like to play a ball like that in scrambles. For regular play for me, there's nothing like sucking the ball back 10 feet with a short iron, so I'll stick with premium balls and save money by buying X-OUT's.

These just showed up at my local Wal-Mart. I wish the Gamer would too.
