I played last week with the new TM Penta and was surprised at the performance, for my swing, comparing it to Pro V's which I play frequently. The Pro V works pretty good for me especially the short game. It was cold 48°s and the Penta seemed a bit harder with driver than the Titleist; but, it was consistently longer about 5 to10 yards with a higher launch. The approaches were equal and the check around the greens was phenomenal...much stronger for me than the Pro V's. Not completely sold yet until it warms up a bit; but, Taylormade appears to have a winner.
Bob, great comments on the Penta ball. From your post this is the kind of performance I hope to get out of this ball.
I ordered a dozen last month and their setting here on my desk ready to go,,lol! I'm just waiting on the 2 feet of snow to melt so I can test these babies out.
I've been putting with them on my homemade green in my basement the last few weeks and I really like the feel on the putter blade. They feel a little softer than the TP Red's with the putter.
If the Penta gives me solid distance and a softer feel and spin around the greens it will definitely be my ball of choice this season.
I played it last week...was disappointed after the build up, but it's not a bad ball...not quite as good in all areas as the prov1, and a cut below the prov1x distance wise, and a cut below in all areas compared to my usual bridgestone b330s...nothing wrong with it, and if that's all there was to play I'd be happy enough, but it was neither a game changer, superlative or much else; for me, it is at the same level of performance as a srixon ad333 which isn't a good thing $$$ considered...

Bump, I know your not a proponent of using spin in the greenside short game unless it is necessary, you've mentioned it before, but, having played the 333's I found them lacking a lot in that area. I would have to say BS e5 even outperforms it. Distance was fine and approaches were adequate but I would never put them in the same league as any of the performance balls merely an inexpensive alternative. I do still have the hat that came free with the box though. What a crazy game we play...to each there own with every piece of equipment, brother.

I hear you Bob. There are occasions for TM Burner TP and there are for TP RED. Have you played those TP RED/BLACK before? How does Penta compare to its predecessors?
It's been a good while since I played the Red/Black. I preferred the red for it's soft feeling and higher spin compared to the black. I felt like the distance with the Pro V1 was similar with the red in my case. Perhaps I got a bit more overall distance with the Titleist including roll. The Blacks seemed to launch a little higher for me; but, although there was adequate control with it greenside, as advertised, it was somewhat less than the red.
The Penta's launch a little higher off my driver, go further with some roll, and bite more than the Reds for my swing or lack there of.
Cheers,
Bob
