I used to play the ProV1's all the time, then I decided to try the Nike One Blacks which I have been using for the last couple of months. Today I was low on balls so I bought some at the course. THey don't carry Nike's so I bought the Prov1's. I absolutely hated them after using the Nike One Black. They didn't feel near as good off the clubface of either my driver or irons. They felt heavy when being struck by the club. Also my average driving distance was about 10-15 yards shorter. After my round I gave them away. Next purchase, Nike One Platinum's.
Coming back after a number of years away from golf ( due to my geographical location ) I equipped myself out with clubs that were right up there in technology and away I went with my golf pro to the practice range to see what was left of the swing that provided me with a seven handicap a number of years ago. Being in my late fifties my thoughts were " how would I be able to keep up with the young guys that belt the blazes out of the ball ".
I was always a very good wood player and according to my pro. my swing on the longer clubs was excellent but I had to dedicate my time to the short game ( which I have done ) and that practice time has paid off. The subject of balls came up, to me this is an area that it very confusing, I pay absolutely no attention to the advertisements of the golf ball manufacturers. Of course their ball is the longest, high spin, low spin, diddley dumpydoo construction etc. etc. they are in the business of selling period, and in an effort to sell their products they try to baffle the average golfer with a bunch of **** On a quiet evening at my club I played seven holes using a Pro-V, a Hogan Tour and a Nike Black. This is only my opinion of course, the Pro-V won hands down, no contest, fabulous overall performance I could throw it at the flag, hard, from forty yards using a punch 52 degree wedge confident that this ball would check, and it did, much better than the Hogan or the Nike. I use a 460cc. Genex 3DX driver by Nickent Golf, it has an Aldila NV regular shaft, forget about distance between the three balls, I am not a machine, the feel off the driver ( and irons ) of the Pro-V was better than the other two balls and yes it is long. I can say this, I am twenty yards longer off the tee than I was twenty five years ago, its' all technolgy ( thank you ) clubhead material, shafts, balls, thats it and I love it all.

When I played the old DT90s, I shot is the mid to high 80s.
With the Pro V1, I can now consistently play in the high 70s & low 80s
It has more distance...great spin into the greens (I have a low ball flight)...the feel is excellent (soft) coming off a putter...the cover is extremely durable for such a soft / spinning ball...and it is great around the greens!
I can't play with the ProV1s due to the silly amount they spin. I backed an 8-iron 15 feet (playing downwind) last outing. Spinning it off the map with a SW is common. They are way too unpredictable. No more for me. I really do like the x's though. I am going to give some Srixon Z-URs a run next season. They look like a good substitute ball and should spin slightly less than the x.

That's more spin than a tour pro puts on an 8 iron so you may be right about needing a ball with a harder cover.
i like them both, the pro v1 x seems to go farther for me. these are two of the very few balls out there that doesn't leave strands of cover hanging off the ball after a solid strike with a milled face wedge.
^^ no mean to like butt in, but you gotta stop ressurecting these year old threads
Is there a rule on this forum about posting a response to an old thread that I'm not aware of? What difference does it make how old the thread is? I thought a public forum was for input. If you don't like someone's input then ignore it.
i voted birdie because they spin a lil too much for me so i play eth pro V1x but these are amazing balls and the V1/Professional family rank above all others in my opinion
well the Pro V1 is a great ball IMO, longer off the tee too since they released the newer balls, the pro v1x is a close second but i think the nike one black is a bit better. but pro v's spin more then any ball, and are like the super ball of golf, #1 ball in golf
