I played this ball yesterday for the first time. I found it ok off the tee, but extremely receptive around the greens. I must admit that I posses a Calloway bias that, Colloway has not been able to shake for years. But over all its a good quality golf ball.
I like it, bought a doz last week, had to get them from up north as no1 down here stocks them. I like them, no I love them. I normally play the V1X but this is just a little longer. Also as I put a lotta spin on the ball I don't mind it not checking as much. They've got me sold.
Can't wait to try the new HX Tour 56 that Mickelsons playing. I hear they are releasing it to the public soon. Also looking forward to having a whack with Maxfli BlackMax I think its called
I bought a dozen HX Tours a week ago and like them very much, I had been playing the Pro V1 (2004 version) and found them to be longer off the tee with no loss of touch around the green. Still have to try the new Pro V1 though.
I found one today and played it. It has way too much spin on the greens. I hit a full SW shot and hit the middle of the green. The ball spun back to the front of the green. I usually don't spin balls that much at all. Nice feel but way to much spin.
Bought a 3-pack the other yesterday to try them. I liked the distance they got, there definatly one of the longer balls. They spun just the right amount, not to much, not to little. The only thing I didn't like was the feel. Felt just a little to hard for me.

I couldn't agree more. I break 80 about 5 of every 10 rounds, so I know how to hit a golf ball straight, but I have found the HX Tour to be one unforgiving ball. It is long, but when I try to cut or draw it off the tee it almost always overcooks. I hit a long drive last week that turned so far left it hit a golf cart coming down the second fairway (if that was anyone here, sorry), which is separated from the hole I was playing by 50 yards of preserved area.. I made no effort to retrieve the double crossing ball. The kid I was playing with nearly doubled over he was laughing so hard.
I also find the cover to be fragile, it gets beat quickly simply from hitting it well (as does the V1x IMHO) . Tough to spend $40 for balls that last about 6 holes.
Def. like this ball. Played a course on Labor Day that had fast and firm greens. I was able to work the ball both ways off the tee easily. The distance was pretty good, not as far as pure distance balls, but only a few yards behind. Long and mid irons, the ball again was easily workable and checked up after a few bouces. Where I had some trouble was with the short irons, but it wasnt the ball it was me. This ball def. checks (at least on these greens) and on pitch and chip shots I routinely came up short due to the spin I would get. I wasnt use to a ball that spun that much and also had to deal with the ball 'backing up'. Nothing a slight adjustment to distances wont cure though. The ball also rolled straight and true on all putts with good feeling.
overall it's a pretty good ball but didn't check up as nicely as the balls i'm used to playing (platinum and pro v1). however the hx 56 is a different story. loved how it performs off the tee and around the greens
I got a steal (literally*) on a few of these balls and I've played them my last few times out. I play the Titleist ProV1 exclusively so I'm comparing the HX to the ProV1.
Distance wise they're close but I think the ProV1 is better in the wind. The HX has a soft feel off all the clubs and is real good around, and on, the greens. It's definitely a premium ball ($44.00 a dozen at my local Dunham's Sportinig Goods Store) and it performs like one. My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that the HX Tour Black scuffs really easily. My wedges did enough damage with only a shot or two that the balls had to go into the practice bag. That doesn't happen with my ProV1's and at that price I sure won't be buying anymore.
I gave it a 4 rating for it's performance but I'd give it a 0 for durability.
*No, I didn't steal the HX Blacks but someone else did. A friend of mine is the store manager at Dunhams and I was in the store looking for a decent winter ball. I noticed a box of Callaway HX Tour Blacks was open and someone had "removed" a sleeve. I took the opened box to my friend to let him know someone had ripped off the balls and he asked me if I wanted what was left for $15.00. Not one to pass up a good deal on a ball I was going to try next year anyway, I soon had my "winter" balls.
