played the Hogan Tour Deep today. Actually, pretty decent ball. Excellent ball control and bites well off the irons and good spin when chipping. Feels good off the putter(cameron red-x), but so do most balls and it holds it's line well. need to compare this ball against the hx-tour next.
kinda pricey, but it's better than the hogan black, imho.
stagday swingspeed around mid to high 90's with moderate tempo.
I played this ball a little while back. It was quite comparable to the PRO V1. Good distance off the tee and held the green well from full approach shots to short pitchs, to greenside chips.
I played one of these yesterday. Compares to similar tour caliber golf balls and all will go far. You really can't go wrong with any of them. The difference I see is the wear on the ball after full wedge shots. Yesterday, I was about 105 to the pin - perfect full sand wedge for me. Hit the ball two feet behind the pin and spun it back about 10 feet and the sw is new so there were nice deep grooves. I thought the ball was going to be shredded like the ProV1 and HX Tour. I was wrong. Appears only to have scuffed the paint layer. Great ball and much more durable than the ProV1 or HX Tour. I like the performance alot.
I'm fortunate to have a friend who works for Top Flight/Callaway, and she sent me two dozen to try out. Now that Top Flight doesn't make the Strata Ace, I think this is an excellent replacement. Great performance, and I can stop the ball on a dime with my longer irons.
I'm not sure if this is a fluke or not, but a few weeks ago, I happen to peer into the logo overrun bin at my local Golfsmith.
Lo and behold, I saw a bunch of Tour Deeps in there! For $17.99 a dozen! They were mixed in with Hawks and Apex Tours. I picked out two dozen with the least amount of print on them and I was out the door.
Have been using these for a while and really like them. I find them soft with very good distance. They seem a good match with my driver too and hang a long time in the air. With the short irons the spin on the ball is amazing, I used to be quite reluctant to shoot over the pin but am now a lot more confident, even getting 8 irons to check and spin back if the greens are receptive. I also find the paint gets removed with wedge shots but it doesnt seem to affect their playability.
I've been playing with these for a while and they've replaced ProV1's in my bag.
Softer around the greens, more durable and similar distance at a better price. Could any decent golfer ask for more?
