I've played the HX Hot and I'm not very impressed with it. Like someone else the cover seems to cut up easily and there is definitaly a difference off the tee compared to the Pro V1's I usually play. The HX Hot seem to have alot of side spin of the tee.
John actually reccomended these to me a couple of weeks ago. I picked up a box at wal-mart for $25.00. I had beed using Nike Super Fly balls which were a great ball to get up in the air, but seemed to be hard to work with around the greens, and I must say these are pretty impressive. I think, I am going to keep playing with these for awhile even though they are $10.00 more than the Nike Super Fly. They are easier to chip, and seem to be a lot nicer to putt with.
Have anyone compared these with TopFlite Strata TL Tour? Which one is longer off the driver?
I haven't tried the TL Tour, but I have used the Strata TL distance (also a 3 piece ball), which is comparable to The Callaway HX Hot in both driver distance and feel. They both have a slightly firmer cover than the pricier "tour" balls. Both are very long off the driver, but don't have the feel or hold the greens quite as well as most tour balls. However, they both will work well for average golfers. I use them somewhat interchangeably, but tend to favor the Callaways. You can usually get a better price on the TopFlite/Stratas (I paid $11 per dozen at Target recently, and paid $20 for my last dozen of HX Hots at a golf discount store). I would expect that the TopFlite Strata TL Tour would be somewhat shorter off the tee, but (hopefully) better performers around the greens. I think the best thing to do is get a sleeve of each of them, and alternate hitting them for a couple of holes to see which works best for you.
I have used the HX tour( I found them) don't see much difference in it from the warbird but with my handicap 30 I probably wouldn't. One note I go out to collect balls at my local course I collected a dozen on one hole so I guess there are a lot of golfers out there that don't see the difference
I've played two rounds with the HX Hot now - I quite like it. It's fairly long, nice to putt with, and just about durable enough to last 18 holes. I've been getting OK spin with them too.
A couple weeks ago, I tried the HX Hot because it seems that everytime I find a Callaway ball I like they discontinue it (Blue Bertha, HX Blue, etc.) Anyway, I like the softness of the HX Tour, but can't afford it. I really like the way HX Hot jumps off the tee, plays well on my irons and I chip it really, really well. The only area I struggle with it is on the green. For some reason, I just can't a consistant feel for on the putting surface. Probably 70% of the time it is fine, but a couple times it just takes off. Can't figure it out.
I guess in my perfect world, I would use to the green & then switch it out with an HX Tour; but I know that is illegal. I plan to continue to use this ball until I find something better.

I'm getting on really well with these and have adopted them as my ball of choice.
I didn't really like or dislike them, they were no different (to me) than some Pinnacle logo overruns I've been using. Don't think they are worth the premium price, but maybe I'm not good enough to be able to tell....
I found a new one on the course and tried it but was not impressed. It felt a bit hard and I didn't like the feel on the green.
I was thoroughly disappointed when Callaway in their infinate wisdom discontinued the HX Blue 3 piece in favor of the orange labled abomination.
To me the HX Blue 3 piece was the pinnacle of low compression , urethane covered , 3 piece balls for the average guy.
Now I am wondering around golf ball **** looking for a suitable replacement.
I've tried the Nike Power Distance Soft with mixed results , Maxfli Noodle ( no thanks !) ,Titleist DT So/Lo , Nike MOJO ( no thanks ) and have settled on the Maxfli Revolution Tour only to find out THEY decided to discontinue this ball too ! GRRrrrr......
I absolutely REFUSE to pay $3.33 per ball or $40 for a dozen golf balls !
