mizuno grand monarch XA
My parents have had quite a few golf clubs throughout their lives... prolly went through about 15~20 in all.. some of the clubs that still remain in the house is a Mizuno Grand Monarch XA. It's like a half blade-ish design, and with steel shafts. I tried hitting a few, but it was very hard to do so (prolly due to my poor swing, which I adapted to Ping clubs). It's got very little offset and a thin top, so at address, it looks like a conventional blade.
But anyway, I don't think these are THE grand monarchs that are sold for thousands now... regardless, are these of high quality, or are they ****? Feels mighty different to the mizuno zephr that shares its bag with.
If they are worth a bit, I am thinking about getting fitted wtih them. Always wanted to try blades that were custom fit for me (so that I'll run out of equipment excuses).

I guess no one has heard of it...
well, here's a pic of them that I took a couple of minutes ago, before I re-gripped it.
Would these be considered a cavity or muscle back?
I initially faced a lot of difficulty getting good shots. I guess the Ping ISI's have done their damage to my swing.
However, after about 10 balls on the range, wow... I love the way they feel once I get a great shot. The distance gain is also..wow...
I might not pick up the ISI's anymore.
It's GREAT what these less forgiving clubs can do for you... I had immense problems with fairway woods, and even contemplated purchasing a 2 iron. Luckily, afer I got used to the mizuno's, I could actually make great contact with the fairway woods as well!
I like it a lot. COmments welcome, mizuno experts even more welcomed.
I think they would be a cavity back. Mizuno had some irons in the mid 80's I considered purchasing - the Mizuno Cimarron which the model I was lookng at was a blade design. Bought some Titleist blades instead.
So that implies that you're not a huge mizuno fan, I presume? :)
No, I think Mizuno makes great clubs. I'd like to have a set of the new MP-60's in my bag right now. I also saw some pictures of a set of black wedges which I think are only available in Asia which I would like to have, also.
Black wedges meaning that the whole wedge is black? Or do you mean the Intage or the T-zoid gold? Both are cavity clubs, though.
You also gotta realize that the T-zoid gold and the Intage havent even been SEEN by 90% of the American golfers out there. These series, as well as the grand monarch XA's are asia only clubs, I am seriously thinking about picking up a set of the JPX E300 irons, they look nice and clean, plus I have family over there and one just happens to own a driving range/pro shop and 1/2 owner of a golf course.
Its funny seeing the market for asia where most of the mizuno irons being made arent blades, most are cavity back with blade features (thin profile/little to no offset) they fit the criteria of what a blade is based on, but the cavity back allows for maximum forgiveness but allows you to still work the ball like a pro.

Judging by what you carry in your bag, you know what you want in clubs.
You might not be very happy with the JPX, cause they are very forgiving, more like game improvement irons. The T-zoid gold might be a better option for you. It's like a half muscle back type, the last time I heard someone use it.
It's funny how I want to get a set of MP-30's shipped from the states, and here you are looking for clubs to be sent over there. lol~
I like the golds, but something just draws me to the JPX's, not quite sure what it is exactly. They really wouldnt be much of a difference from my MX-20's which are also pretty forgiving, but the JPX's would have a little less offset, I guess it comes down to the visual look of the clubs, I like the MX line, but compared to the JPX's, they look ugly and both probably preform pretty much the same. I still might just go with the golds, hoping I can get over there soon to visit family and have a set ready to go when I step foot on soil.
Oh, and bbtt123, there IS a big difference between the MX20 and the JPX...a LOT of diff in price, my friend..;)
Price isnt a worry, as it would be a present from my family over in Okinawa, the one who owns the range/proshop already said not to bring clubs when I come over, just to let him know what I want and he will have them waiting for me when I get there , although I think the price of the plane ticket will kind of make that money up..lol

Then why would you request a JPX? Might I recommend a Honma 4 star? It looks good, has gold on it, and all those things that are useless in playing better golf. :p hehe

Because they are family members that I am going to see, not IN-LAWS
I want a set of Japanese market Mizuno's, nothing high priced or anything like that, I already have plans for a Gauge Japan putter which will take up the majority of what I would want to ask for, to them money is no object, but I figure going "cheap" and playing a ton more golf would be the way to go.

The JPX are pretty high priced though. Perhaps not as expensive as a grand monarch cresta (USD$7000 onwards) but they do cost more than the MP series. :)
Oh, and do you guys get this callaway irons that resembles the look of the ping i3+? It's not picking up a lot of momentum here, but apparently, it's supposedly wicked good.
My mind is still set on the MP30's though. Anyone selling it for a good price? :D
