Hi. So I was about to buy some new irons and wanted to make sure I bought them with the right shaft. I’ve always played with True Temper shafts, but there has been some craze about rifle shafts the last couple of years, and I wanted to make sure the difference between the two before I made a change. I mean, if the rifle shafts are better than the other one, why is it that L. Donald, J. Leonard, A. Scott, D. Love, M. Weir, F. Couples AND Tiger Woods use Dynamic Gold’s? (Els, Appleby, DiMarco and Toms use rifle).
Thats a question we get asked a fair bit in our store. I've hit both in the identical iron and I don't think I was able to tell the difference. I'm an OK golfer and have played about 40 years. They are both top of the line shafts. Check the specs on both. If I'm not mistaken the Rifle may be about 5 grams less weight vrs and equal length TT Dyn. Gold.
I agree with Brian F. I have hit Rifle 5.5, Gold stiff and now play Hogan Apex 4 ( I think made by Royal Precision, Rifle) and I can not tell much difference. Now driver shafts are a different story but with irons I can not relly tell a difference.

is that right? "...don't think I was able to tell the difference..."
OK that's good enough for me...although i am curious about NS PRO 970 103gram(S) shafts [and 99gram(R) shafts for my long irons, #2 & #3]

You might want to know that Ennie Els and Phil Mickleson play with Rifle shafts in their irons. Two of the top four or five golfers on Tour. One plays the Rifle Flighted shafts, the other the Project X shafts. I'd recommend the Rifle Flighted shafts, easier to get the ball up nice and high with the longer irons.
You can compare Project X to the Dynamic Gold but on the flighted rifles. The flighted rifles and the DG are apples and oranges DG are not flighted at all. The Rifles do feel lighter to me. Project X tends to be stiffer and will cause a lower ball flight on avg. I have not noticed much difference in the Project X and DG in the way of feel.
