SMT heads, anyone familiar?

Hey guys, 1st post here, nice site. I am considering purchasing a SMT head for nothing but distance off the tee. Anyone have any experience with this company or their products? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Frank,

I have a SMT Nemesis with a stiff Graf. Blue shaft in a 9 degree loft. It is definitely the longest driver that I have ever hit. I also have a HP 420 that I am looking to use as soon as I pick a shaft. Mike Tait, president of SMT, makes great products at a great price. I think their best selling heads are the Nemesis and now the new Spectrum. Give them a try, you will like their product.

SMT are solid products. I have a Shinnec*ck head, and love it. Very solid and long.

Mike Tait's dedication to quality and customer service are second to none.

Go ahead and buy it, you won't be sorry.

Will the heads offered by SMT compliment the "average" golfer? Are these heads the type of heads that are forgiving for those of us who do not have the most ideal swingpath? I am not worried with "working" the ball at this stage of my game, my only concern is distance with consistency coming from me. hehe Right now I currently have the 975d with an EI-70 shaft and the distance when connected is great. I appreciate the input thus far.

Frank,

To answer your question about if the heads are for average golfers, I would say a big YES. I consider myself an average golf. I usually shoot in the mid 80's to low 90's from the blue tees. These club heads have a deep bore. Therefore the shaft you put in will be close to a flex stiffer. I think that with a deeper bore, it actually keeps the head more stable. At least that is the case for me. If you can hit the 975D with somewhat consistency, then the SMT lines will give much more forgiveness.

Frank,
The reason I bought the 11* Nemesis driver from my buddy was forgiveness. I tried it on a hole where I hit my regular driver flush and the Nemesis on the toe. The Nemesis drive was 10 yards past my other one so do you need any better testimonial as to forgiveness? :D

I use the SMT nemesis and it is easy to hit and long. Get a shaft that matches your swing and get ready to see parts of the course you've never seen before.

All this talk about the SMT Nemesis has got me interested. Just out of curiosity, what other drivers have all of you used before and how does the SMT compare? I've never heard of it until now and visited their Web site and am now intrigued.

SMT has some great stuff. Their clubs dominate long drive competitions (Nemesis, 455 Deep Bore, etc). I'm thinking of actually getting one just for pure distance (winning those long drive holes on company outings...though I'd have to sacrifice a wedge or fairway wood to get it in my bag).

I'm thinking of getting one, too. I've heard a lot of great things about it here and elsewhere. The price isn't too bad, either when you consider what the r7 and even older Taylor Made drivers go for.

I have 2 SMT's in the bag right now:

HP420 6* loft- got this head for low cuts into the wind or when its right/left or viseversa...I usually hit my driver higher that most so it took a little while to get used to...now with it matted in a 2 or even 3x flex shaft I can use it for low line drives with accuracy that is out of this world..the shaft is cut to full LDA length which adds a little of the distance I'm losing by going 3x stiff. The head is unbelieveable (although I put a dent just under the hosel due to wet ground :(...so it is being replaced right now.

Also have a SMT spectrum 7.5* mated with a SK fiber stiff flex at 48.5 inches in legth...all I have to say about the spectrum is...WOW!!! LONG/Forgiving and beautiful in appearance. I have come to the conclusion that I am stuck with drivers closer to the 400cc range as anything in the 425-450 range I cannot work like I want to. Going from a slim 265cc lynx blackcat to a 391cc spectrum was quite different but I must say well worth it.

There are plenty of other components around that are on par with SMT...the market has really heated up and you really cant go wrong with any of them..Bang/SMT/Alpha/Lowpro/Snakeyes/Dynacraft and many others (I know ive forgot a few..KZG exct) are quality pieces that offer something for everyone..do your homework and email the people at the companies and express what you are wanting out of it..and they will lead you the right way

Thumbs up Smt

Get yourself a Nemesis w/ reg flex Graffaloy Blue. You'll thank me later. Remember they usually play a little low to loft. Ten or eleven should work great.

I have a 455 DB and am hitting the ball with more confidence than I ever have before.
Great distance and very few scary balls that go too far left or right! It is a 10 degree with a accuflex VS 339 shaft and is a killer combination. Good luck with your search!!

SMT make quality heads, but then so do; Bang, KZG, Infinity, Golfworks/Maltby, Ashton, Integra, Lowpro, Nakashima; to name just a few. SMT heads tend to show ball marks more so than others but they provide a lifetime guarantee and will replace without question. The only heads I have heard failing on any club are the ones hit by the long drivers.

These components are as good as (if not better) than any of the name OEM brands such as TaylorMade, Titlelist, Calloway, Cleveland etc and their prices are far more reasonable. With these you are paying for the product and the cost to bring it to the market, not the sponsorship of and free giveaways to the tour players. The same goes for shafts. I have no interest in any component company. I only got into them thru these forums - and I am so glad I did. I doubt that I will ever buy another OEM club again.
