Lead Tape

Hey guys,

I find I prefer hitting heavier clubs. I currently play I3+ blades with s-300 shafts and want to make the heads heavier to help produce a smoother swing. I have never applied lead tape and my biggest fear is I will put the lead tape on incorrectly and it will affect my ball flight. How do you guys correctly apply lead tape?

i would just experiment with it, using logic, if you put the tape lower on the club, the ball will fly higher, and if you put the tape higher on the club, then the ball flight will be lower, but ive never used the tape so i dont know for sure

Anothe option is to put lead powder down the shaft floowed by a cork to keep it in, not recomended for graphite shafts. For tape the sole in the center will give a slightly higher shot, right in the middl of the cavity should have no effect, and on the toe would give you a fade bias and on the heel a draw bias, in theory anyway. Anothe option would be to get lighter grips, like 40 gr insetead of the normal 50-55 gr.

I might try that. I like to hit a draw. So, I might put some tape on the heel.

I play the I3+ as well but in the oversize version. They also feel light to me. Like I am swinging a stick with no weight on the end. I have the ping shafts on my irons and was thinking of going to the dg s 300s too, but maybe that is not the answer because yours feel to light too. Does anyone know what the swing weight of these pings are?

ping swing weights.

I have the i3+ Blades and mine are D-0. Ping generally is in the high C or low D range. Another option is to go to a lighter grip. Sometimes you can pick up a couple swing points that way.

Can't you send these in to Ping and get the weight changed with that port thing they have? Not sure but might be worth a call to Ping.

Yes I could send the clubs back to WRX and have them worked on since they we're custom built in the department anyway. From what I know I think the tuning port only changes the swing weight of the club, not the actual weight. Sending it back won't change the static weight, which is making the heads heavier

For irons the lead tape should go on the back of the head. If you put it really low you'll theoretically get a higher ball flight, but not always. If you want the ball flight the same you should put the weight as central as you can on the back of the club head. And you can always take it off again!

Why don't you put the tape (round and round ) on the place where the clubhead joins the shaft... i do that if i want a heavier head weight ..
