ping, callaway, or taylormade???

i'm in the process of buying some new irons. the models i'm considering are the tm r7 xd, the ping g5, and the callaway x-18. i've hit both the tm and the callys, and am going to demo the pings this weekend. so far the tm and callys feel about the same, r7s are a bit crisper i think. what i like about ping is their custom options and resale value. any opinions would be welcome...

thanks

I have the TM RAC LT's, they are abotu the only cast club I've tried that desnt feel like a cast club. I don't like Callaway stuff for several different reasons and the Pings top like lines too thick and the lack feel to me. But get what geels best to you.

The Pings are diefinitely the softest. Besides the fact that I don't like the look of any of them, I'd get the Pings, as they feel the best.

Do yourself a favour and just test drive the Macgregor M455's,

I brought these irons after testing the Ping G2's, Callaway X18's and the Mizuno MX 23's. There is no doubt in my mind that these were by far the easiest to hit, and they also look a lot nicer than any of the forementioned clubs. Another big bonus is they're forged and you could probably get them considerably cheaper than any of the clubs you are looking at.

Todays golfer (UK publication) has (and still does) rate them as the best game improvement irons out there for the past couple of years. The proof is in the pudding and I have slashed my handicap from a 24 to 13 in 12 months using these irons.

I think the only problem you have is that Macgregor are not deemed as a fasionable club maker over in the States. Fortunately living across the pond I don't seem to suffer from the same sort of club manafacturer snobbery as you do.

Here's a brief review from Todays Golfer http://www.macgregorgolf.com/uploads...6_TG_Jul04.pdf

Go for the Pings. I have a set of the G2's and love them. TM makes great clubs but their resale value is worse than a cars.

I would get the TM's. If you like the clubs enough then you won't be getting rid of them for a few years. Not many clubs get a great resale value after being used for that long. Plus by then everyone else is looking at newer irons or from a year or two before that.

They are all top of the line gear. All that matters is what works for you. I love the fact that Ping irons are made in the USA. The only mass produced top of the line club that still is.
