My New Irons

Just got a big box from Fedex containing my new Irons, the Innovex RLS's. They look really nice. FST Pro White stiff steel shafts. Very similar in head shape and size to my old Spaldings, so they should be pretty easy to get used to.

Unfotunately I probably won't be able to get out to try them for a couple of weeks. I did have a hit in my backyard net, but I have to use plastic practise balls due to the high risk of me missing the net! The shafts felt nice and the two balls I hit over the house seemed to fly.

I chipped a couple of proper balls, and could definitely feel more feedback than my old irons, which is good. More offset and deeper cavities than I expected.

The grips are a little wierd though, real tacky (which I suppose is a good thing) and they smell kinda funny. They don't have that great 'new grip' smell I've come to love.

I'm just happy to have finally replaced my old Kmart irons! I've had them since I started (about 5 years ago). They really needed a regrip, but replacing them completely is far more fun!

Thanks Kevin, I'll let you know how they go.

Congrats on your new clubs! I know that excitement and it is as close as I can remember about being a kid at Christmas. I am sure there will be some frustrations over the next couple weeks, but once you get them dialed in - there is nothing better.

They are fantastic on the course.... you know there has been very little mention of the RLS wedges, I was sticking a lot of greens with them, they can really spin the ball !. Kevin's tip about using the Hybrid aroud the green worked out really well too.

Do you guys have the standard Innovex grips? What do you think of them? Also, they're meant to be standard length, but they're about 1/2 an inch shorter than my old Kmart Spaldings. Is that just because different companies have different 'standard' lengths?

*edit* my mistake, the 7 irons are the same length, but the 4 iron is shorter, so I guess they just have different increments.

I have the Innovex grips and find them to work very well. There was a long thread at one of the other sites that was very positive about the Star Sidewinder grips. They are a little different than your average "tour velvet" style grip but they are US made and very precise to round and weight and reportatly very durable. In play they work well and feel very good.

I require a mid-size so I got some rubber cords (star) that do the job for now.

Well after another hit in my net, (incuding some naughty ones with real balls!) I have to say these irons feel really good. I can't wait to have a round with them.

Took these to the range yesterday and they were great. Didn't notice any distance improvement, but it was into a cross wing. Huge accuracy and consistency improvement though, which is all I ask from my irons. The FST shafts feel fantastic, really smooth like everyone said. Don't know why these shafts aren't more famous, they feel heaps nicer than Tempers to me.

The pitching wedge is my favourite so far, so easy to hit. I had swings that didn't deserve to get anywhere, yet when I looked up my ball was magically going the right way. I can chip, pitch and hit full shots really easily with that club. It's threatening to do my 53* 588 out of a job! Nice feel with these clubs to. Go Innovex. Definitely wanna try one of their hybrids at some stage.

Sooty.. yeah, you've got that right thy are some great feeling clubs. The Hybrids feel great and fit seemlessly in with the irons. Hit some beauites with the 22* 4H yesterday.. with a .370 hosel and the FST stiff shafts the dispersion on these is outstanding with a great ballflight that really lets you attack greens.

I heading to the range for the first time this year on wednesday night. Can't wait to see my ball flight as I've only been hitting into a screen for the winter.

Played my first full round with these irons today and was really happy with them. Great feel, very consistent. Can't believe you can get clubs this good for that price. Shot a net 69 today (95 gross). That was with pored greens which equalled a lousy putting day, and it was on a course I've never played before. I'd like to get an Innovex hybrid to replace my makeshift 23*, but to be honest, that was my best club today!
