I'm a mini tour professional, thinking of going back to offset irons, my handicap is about + 2.5. i'm on the shorter side in height, this change I think will me with confidence at address. I currently use ping i 3 blade model, gonna switch to o size. what do you think?
Are you having trouble with your Ping's then? Offset irons encourage a closed face at the point of contact if I'm not wrong, so unless your'e losing a lot of shots rights (or left if left handed) I would stay with what yuo have. You don't seem to be doing too bad - mini tour pro off +2.5!!! I wish I were that good!!
As a player who only dreams of achieving a 2.5 handicap I'm a bit hesitant to respond. After experimenting with many irons over the past decade - from minimal offset players clubs to full GI models - I prefer at least moderate offset which lets me play a consistant draw in my long irons. I've read opinions that offset shouldn't make a big difference in ballflight but my experience has been the opposite. With minimal offset irons my 3-6 iron ballflight was consistently straight to fading and I had trouble grooving a draw. With offset in the long irons I consistently hit 5-10 foot draws. Because my bad iron misses tend to be pulls left I'm uncomfortable aiming at the left side of a green, with offset irons I can align to the right side of a green with confidence that the right side is eliminated and a pull/miss generally won't leave me too far left of the green.
So does that mean that if a majority of miss shots are hooks with my 804s with enhcnaced offset mean i should play less offset?
Less offset would probably help since it would indicate you arent having any issues closing the face.
Other swing issues may be causing the face to be closed on impact
I was talking to the local teaching pro about pings and he mentioned that the i3's blades were regarded as harder to it and that a lot of guys on tour were going with the o-size.... not sure which tour he meant though... There is also a big diference in the amount of bounce between those two sets as well. I like the much improved leading edge on the plus models as i tend to dig now an then and the i3 blades will cut a trench.
I just traded some DCI's (no offset) for a set a Hogan Apex Pluses (slight offset). I needed a forged iron so I could get the lie more upright. The DCI's are cast. I do like the Hogan's much more. And, I believe some of that has to do with the offset. I haven't played them enough to notice a difference in distance. They are easier to draw. They will still fade, as well. I just open the face and feet slightly.

Have the lie checked on your irons. If you're coming in too flat that can lead to some extra draw. But, that all depends on how consistent your swing is.
I thought offset was mainly to help keep the hands in front of the club face at impact and that a closed (non-square) face helped people who had problems naturally closing the club face.

Just as an FYI to everyone... offset does NOT necessarily help you draw the ball. The purpose of offset is to lower the vertical center of gravity, which helps increase launch angle, and ultimately helps with accuracy due to the increased launch and spin rate.

Still have your Zings?... I remeber those were always your "go to" sticks. If not, I still have mine so give me holler if you need em.
