Question Does the flex of steel shafts change over time?

Does the flex of steel shafts change after repeated loading and unloading? Do they become weaker and more inconsistant? Thanks

i know true temper does tests repeatedly hittin a million golf balls .I thinks its more of the elements that are going to make the change in consistency. exposure to moisture and heat like leaving them in the trunk will do it.

I don't know if the flex does, but if your swing speed changes then the shaft will obviously behave differently. I know as my swing has improved, my reg tempers are becoming more unsuitable, resulting and ballooning ball flight and reduced accuracy, while I'm hitting my stiff shafted driver straighter and further than ever.

Took my new stiff shafted Innovex irons to the range yesterday and noticed an phoenomenal improvement in accuracy. Those FST shafts are magic.

I used regulars in a set of clubs for about 12 years..... by the end of it they were most definitely stiffer than they started. Considering work hardening, it makes perfect sense.

If you are asking if the shaft will loosen or tighten over time due to usage then the answer is.... No.

Are you quite sure about that.... everytime the shaft flexes you will cause bulk modifications which can lead to long term changes in the crystalline structure.... from my point of view (I do physics research), it is rather harder to believe they stay the same than change....

Maybe in Graphite the tiny fibers may slowly seperate over a period of time , but steel is more consistent. Like I posted earlier Its not the wear from hitting shot after thats going to have effect on the structure of the shaft , but the elements.

Graphite would be less likely to do so I would imagine... of course the precise stucture of the used graphite I dont. Id really need to see evidence to be convinced that steel doesnt change with wear.... i can provide plenty of evidence that steel (not in a golf shaft) will harden as it is worked...

On the other hand the elements shouldnt actually effect the bulk properties, elements like heat (at least in the 100's of degrees) really shouldnt have enough energy to modify the crystal structure.

I can tell you that Graphite will not change over time. Thats a definite...

As for steel I have seen many customers come in the shop with 7 year old clubs wanting to get fit into something else. I will profile the clubs, swing weight them, check the lofts, check the lie....etc. Point is when a customer tells me he has S-Flex shafts the Profile will prove S-Flex time and time again. So if their is some type of change it takes alot longer or is very very small. Infact my Shafts that are 1 year old and have been used "plenty" of times still profile the exact same.

Hope this helps..
