I was custom-fitted today, and ...

... I didn't hit the MP 60 six-iron (DG S-300) all that well, but then again, it's hard for me to hit off of the board – I have trouble with a really tight lie.

I also tried the MX-900 six-iron (DG Super Light R-300) and fared a little better.

I have two questions:

1. My swing speed with the six-irons was around 87 mph. The custom-fitter, or whatever you call him, said that a Dynamic Gold R-300 would suit me fine. What would some of you recommend for that swing speed?

2. I think I'm going to get the 5-7 irons in the MX-900s and the 8-PW in the MP-60s. What do you think?

If you can't hit 60s, you can't hit 60s...i don't understand why people who can't hit forged clubs would still want to buy forged clubs. Spend your money on something you can hit well with little effort. The game is to shoot low, not looking like you shoot low. It must be an ego thing with many golfers these days.

As far as your shaft question goes...if you have a fast tempo, go with an S200 or S300. If you are a sweeper, with a smooth tempo, an R300 will suit you. Shafts are more than just swing speed. It is the transition from the back swing to the down swing that draws out shaft characterisitics.

I'm sorry but I don't fully agree with birdies and eagles. I play forged blades because they look appealing to my eye. I've always hated thick toplines and I had to trade my Titleist 804's for the blades I'm using now. My swing was decent with the 804's but ever since the switch I'm an excelent ball striker. You may want to try out something else besides the Mizuno's as they arn't the only ones selling excellent clubs.

If you can hit them, that is a different story...if you can't hit them, that is another.

There is a difference between making the switch to blades and being an "excellent ballstriker" as you say, making the switch to a forged cavity back knowing you aren't hitting them well.
