Nike Slingshot Tour Irons

Anyone purchased and played these new irons as of yet or hit them at a demo day? Just looking for some advice and feedback on what they are like?

Today I recieved this months issue of Golf Magazine and they did a club test. They tested various drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, and irons. The Nike Slingshot Tour Irons had the lowest score of them all with a 3/5. I was rather suprised to see that. I guess there not all there cracked up to be. Check the review part of the forum on GR.

The Nike Slingshot OSS irons rated the best in an earlier rating, in the super forgiving category.

Both models are painfully harsh at impact, regardless of how well you hit it. The "Tour" model is as much of a player's cavity back as the RAC OS is. The OSS is essentially a set of Hybrids. If you are looking at buying them, i'd say skip them, and look at something like the Pro Combo OS (if you have your heart set on Nike's) or maybe the easy to hit, sweet feeling Mizuno MX-23's.

They are very easy to hit but they feel bad. Very hard to tell where you hit the ball on the face of the club and have a hard feel because of the cryo finish. They freeze the steel to make it harder and lighter.

I am very suprised at the feedback here on these irons. Golf Digest Hot list rated the Sling Tour Irons very high. I have also searched on the net and have come by a couple reviews from players that have tried or purchased these irons and said they love them, one guy was using the Pro Combo OS and liked these better. Said he got more distance, and the club head gave feedback on feel if you did not hit it on the screws (sweet spot). I quote one players reveiw words "Fantastic iron, one of Nikes best to date. Suprised not more written on these irons, Nike has a hidden gem here on their hands for the almost serious player".

They seem to be the kind of irons people either love or hate.

One of my friends bought a set of these and absolutely hated them. He's a 1-2 handicap. I think he said that they just didn't feel right, like some have already stated. Simp

The reviews you get are that they are very, very, very forgiving irons. As far as a statement that you read refering to feed back my guess is that his miss hits did not go that far off line. If you hit if on the toe or heal you will know....if you miss hit the center by a litte and the you miss a green....well you can't feel that with these clubs and you can be left wondering why you missed.

These clubs are long in the sense that your miss hits are long. The are not any longer then other irons that I have hit before. And when someone states that an one iron is longer then another is weird. Irons are about accuracy not distance. Just because one OEM 9 iron is a little long then another usually is because the loft is stronger. There is no set standard for lofts in irons and each club maker's are just a little different.

I have had the normal old Slings, not the new OSS, the new OSS are way to bulky for my liking and I found the oringinal Slings a little bulky also. Golf Digest Magazine hot list put the Sling OSS under super game improvement and the Sling Tour under game improvement. Some have said any club that is a tour version is for low, low handicap, well I am using the Sling Tour Hybrid and love it and usually low, low handicap clubs fall under the player clubs section of the hot list.

I am playing the Slingshots this year and am very happy with them. The few rounds I have played with them, I find them forgiving and accurate. The seem about a club longer than the TA6's I previously had.

I still can't stand the look of them, but the original slingshots are definitely better than the second generation.
