Cleveland following in the footsteps of TaylorMade.

Not to long ago Cleveland Golf came out with a new Driver set of irons every 2 to 3 years. And wedges it seems like every 5 to 10 years. Now every time I receive a golf catalog Cleveland is coming out with something new. If it’s not a driver it a wedge or a new color scheme what gives with them.

Everybody is coming out with a new product on an annual basis. Golf is getting huge, especially the equipment junkies. The only club I buy on a regular basis is a new driver, and that is only every 2-3 years. My last set of irons, I just put up for sale...MP 14s that have been in use for 7 years. I don't see myself buying a new putter, at least for the next 5 years. My wedges, I just bought to match my new set.

The thing is, all the marketing out there is convincing golfers that they need new clubs every year. You have Golfsmith encouraging it with trade-ins on old clubs, which is a new thing. Rather than dissecting their swing, people will go out and spend a lot of money to fix their game, and while it may seem to work, as a concentrated swing is made with the new sticks, its only natural for one to fall back into a lazy swing mode subconsciously for the clubs to not work again, which causes one to convince themselves that, again, new clubs are needed. Shoot, I remember back in the 90s...clubs came out every 3-4 years.

Just getting back into the sport, I'm loving it! I can get 2 year old gear off of eBay for a fraction of what 2 year old gear would have cost me 5 years ago :)

No not complaining

Having more choices is great. The only thing I hate is $399.99 today and in 6 months it's $199.99.

Cleveland was one of the last 3 OEM's that did not come out with something new every 6 months. The other 2 are Mizuno and Titleist.

I know I play Callaway but at least I have good trade in vaule.

birdies_and_eagles stay away from Golfsmith trade in that is a joke.

Maybe the OEM'S are just bamboozleding us.

I hear ya on that. eBay is the best marketplace for all of that. I traded in a Nike SV and a Vokey chrome wedge a couple weeks ago. I only did it because I got 20 bux a wedge. They aren't in the best condition so I didn't want to ebay it, and have a guy buy them, only to receive something that he thought would've been in better shape. I just don't like leaving a bad taste in one's mouth when they do business with me, because I've been on that end of the stick plenty of times.

The best bit of that is the 2nd hand prices......why anyone needs new clubs every year is beyond me but if you want to pick up the 2nd hand ones then you can get some really good bargains......just regrip them and they'll almost be like new. I've seen guys who really seem to be taken in by the hype and they must have the newest clubs around......just make friends with them and pick up their hand-me-downs.

Within the past month I bought some very good condition Callaway Hawkeye irons, Excellent Callaway 454 driver, new 4 and 7 woods on Ebay for great prices. Then I posted my seven year old Callaway X-12's on GR. They sold in 22 minutes. You don't have to pay the NEW club cost to upgrade.

They need to feed the junkies!!!! One guy I play with has almost every set of irons Titleist has made in the last 10 years. He never even tries them. Just gets the order in and waits.
