Need help selecting new irons

Currently playing with Ping Zing knock offs about 10yrs. old stainless was thinking about Name brand this time around but there are so many choices.I plan on testing demo models but wanted to get some real wold opinions first. Usually play bogey golf but mostly from my sorry putting.Do you think i will notice a difference,i know it's a matter of opinion just looking for feed back from some of the people who may have started with a cheap set and woked up to a name brand.

thanks all, Mike

I started with a cheap set and then got some "game improvement" iron and it made an instant difference both in feel and distance. The only thing I wish I would have done is had a custom fitting done when I bought them. Anyways, I'm sure there will be a lot of people who say it's the Indian not the arrow, but I'm a firm believer that equipment makes a big difference, especially for us higher handicappers.

Just went from using Kmart Spaldings for four years, to Innovex RLS irons. Only played one round with them so far but it was a goodie. They feel better and are more accurate. Great value, you should check 'em out.

Innovex let you buy a 6 iron to try and will refund you less freight if you don't like it. Can't go wrong really.

Yes name brand irons will help your game. I can't say technically what the difference is, but it does. A couple of brands to consider would be a game improvement set of Cobras, or possibly the Nike Slingshots. Both good clubs and the price won't kill you..

Take a look at the Ping G5's. I have some G2's and love them.

Irons are very personal. This is a grat time to go to demo days. Check with the pro shops in your area. I just went to one and was sold on Cleveland CG4's. If you are partial to Ping G5's are an excellent choice.

What ever you do try several and most importantly get them fitted. Unless you are 5' 10'' to 6' you will want something besides standard lie. Mine were fitted to 2 degrees flat (5' 9"+). Most pro shops will fit you for free at the time of purchase.

With my old (first) set of irons I was consistently pushing right and slicing even with a textbook swing (ego not withstanding). The first time I hit the fitted irons in a game I flew a par 3 green (straight at the flag). I had to back off one club for almost every shot even though I wasn't swinging any harder. Shots were straighter and my swing/grip is consistent from club to club.

Have fun.

Thanks alot for the imput guys I will definatly check out any demos here localy I am 5'11" so std. lie should be good .I am also a firm beliver in fitting the clubs to the person. My clubs now were made for me with dynamic shafts and that was a big difference from off the shelf reg. flex shafts and with technology the way it is today I figured its time for a new set.

thanks again,Mike

See if there is a demo day in your area. If not, some stores let you test a set for a nominal fee. Try everything under the sun you are able to - and get properly fitted.
