Zero Roll with driver.

I swear I have not gotten 50 yards of roll on my drives, over the last 3 years combined. Even in the summer when its hard out the ball still leaves a big ball mark in the fairway and is like a foot away from it. This year I am doing the usual caring the ball 285-295 with zero roll. I know I am loosing alot of extra distance from this. 2 days ago I had 3 drives over 310(using range finder) all of them having the ball mark right beside the ball. I don't know what the deal is. It happened to me with the old T-zoid and now with the GBB. My driver is a 9* firm flex but it still launches them into the clouds it seems like.
In the summer months on flat fairways the 3-wood goes further then the driver on most days because of the 20-25 yards of roll it produces.

Don't get me wrong I love it when I see the ball flying high and long, but with that I know its either going to be plugged or zero roll. When its plugged it costs me strokes.

Does anyone else have this problem and what did you do to at least try and get rid of it ? maybe the right shaft for my driver would work but it would be hard for me to belive that just a new shaft could keep the same distance through the air but then give me 10-15 yards of roll once it hits the ground.
I don't know my swing speed because Ive never been on a launch monitor or anything like that. I figure it to be pretty high though. 5 Iron is the 195yard club.

hmm I will have to find that one, thought you could only pick clean and place in winter rules. I am going to check the usga site now and see if I can't find the ruling.

25-2 Embedded Ball
A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground in any closely mown area through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.“Closely mown area” means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less.

So from what I read there, if its in the rough you don't get relief from the embedded ball correct ? I am not up on the lingo of all the "through the green and through the rough"

Maybe if you played with a harder ball, it wouldn't get as much spin and therefore roll longer - just a thought. You're hitting very high with a 9* loft means you're probably connecting on the upswing. Perhaps if you teed the ball a little lower and played the ball a little bit back in your stance - off your left heel v. your left toe - that may help with the roll as well. Try one are all of those ideas. As far as the plugged ball is concerned, i do believe you've solved that issue with the rules stated on the previous posts. Also, a 300 yard drive with no roll is a monster drive. If I could drive 300 yards with no roll I'd be happy. As it is I drive it 270 with the roll. Of course I'm a small guy. Good luck with everything.

There are many variables that can help you keep your Launch Angle down and some man have to do with your spin angle/angle of attack/tee position... etc but if you don't plan on changing your swing anytime soon I would suggest that you take a look at the AccuFLEX VS339 shaft. Its going to lower your spin rate and launch angle to give you more of a boring trajectory. We have reshafted a few golf rewinders with VS339's and they have posted reviews in review section about their results. This might help you make a better decision on what you might want to do.

I still meant to get a video of my swing out to you so you can see what shaft I should get. Haven't been to my sisters yet to use her camera. I am going to VA to take part in that pinnacle long drive contest next month so I am hoping they may have a launch monitor there.

dieter, those are all very good tips. The harder ball might be a problem since I like the softness for the putting greens, I use pro V1 392 90% of the time now. I played the other day with a top flite XXX and still did not get any roll. I was thinking about buying a pack of those super soft from nike but may buy a sleeve of the super far as well since it may be a bit harder. My set up now is with the ball teed up 35-40% above the club, lined up on the toe of it. Ball position is 2 inches inside the left big toe. When I don't hit it straight, it is a fade.

I was in the same boat.... I had a Callaway ERC Fusion 9* with an Aldila NV55 Stiff shaft. I would carry it atleast 285 and get ZERO roll. A lot of the times my ball would be a yard behind where it landed. I recently switched to a Bang driver that is 6* and has a Grafalloy Blue LD XX shaft in it. My ball flight is not as high as before, but it is still up there. I am now getting about 25 yards of roll now too. I would definitely look into an XStiff shaft.

you definitely shoud be in an x stiff as vinrr said, but here is a tina mickelson golf tip, if you want the ball to go higher ,look higher above your target, if you want the ball flight lower, look lower. what that does is tilt your shoulders more towards the taget, lowering ball flight. can't hurt to try. it does work.
