I started a thread a while back asking about the RAC Taylor Made's, but went and got fitted the other day, and asked the guy about which other irons he suggests, so I could try them out.
One of the other sets were the Mizuno's, and I hit it great in the simulator. I normally hit 6 irons 185, and was hitting them 210.
I purchased them, and got a mixed set. MP-32 PW-8 iron, because they're blades that would give me more precision. MP-60 4-7, since they are more forgiving.
Anyone else have/had them, and if so, what were your thoughts? I don't get my set for another 10 days.
Hey, I have the MP 32's and they are the best irons I've ever hit. They are not really true blades though as they are pretty forgivining. The MP 60's are nearly the same club, just with a biggery cavity and slightly larger face. You can't go wrong with either. At address you almost can't tell the difference in them if you hold them beside each other.
I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith into the simulator though. I was in a Pro Golf store just messing around waiting for one of my clubs that being reshafted and hitting in their simulator with a 6 iron and was hitting it average of 232. I normally hit a 6 about 180 if that tells you anything. The MP 32's also have weaker lofts than does say a Titleist or something. They also have flatter lies than does Titleist. So I had my lies bent up 2 degrees (which makes them about standard Titleist lies).

I was gonna say - one thing you *WON'T* see with your new Mizuno's is a 40 yard jump in distance. That's for sure.
I recently upgrades my set from mizen comp es to map 60's and my accuracy improved greatly. I tired bot the 32 and the 60's and found the 60's more solid feeling. However the 32 went just as far. If you slow your swing speed down a touch you can dial in the accuracy with these guys. Great clubs.
A club less. But if your ego can handle it, it will repay you 100 times over. These clubs are simply unmatched as far as forged irons go. With my old TM's, my 8 was my 150 club. Now it's my 7. But the clubs aren't even in the same league, much less the same ballpark.

Incidentally, in Hank Haney's article in this month's Golf Digest, he mentions that Tiger's lofts "have been the same since he was 14, meaning his 9 iron has more loft than Phil Mickelson's 9-iron." I thought that was pretty interesting, and since he was playing Mizuno's when he was 14 (MP-9's, I believe), his lofts will be the same as yours.
I mean, I trust what you guys are saying, of course, just curious if the fact that I am improving my technology so much might cause distance increase. You guys robably switched from a decent set to the Mizuno's. I didn't.
Some old, graphite TPS 7.0's. You guys say a club less, and would kniow from experience, but I think my distance will go up because
a) These clubs will fit correctly with lie and such.
b) They are 1/2 inch long.
c)They are steel clubs instead of graphite, and I think graphite is causing me to lose distance because my swing speed is 98 MPH with a 6 iron.
Is this valid?
I guess it's possible, but if the lofts are weaker, I think it would be hard to gain distance even with the 1/2 inch length increase. My irons are 1/2 inch longer also. I used to have an old set of Golfsmith Blades that my grandfather made me (he used to make the clone type clubs you see everywhere). I changed to the mizuno's and had the lofts on my mizuno irons strengthened two degrees to match my old irons, because I knew about the lofts. I'd say just try them and see. I think either way you'll love them. Irons really are not about distance anyway, they are accuracy clubs. So if you gain a club in distance, great, if you lose a club in distance, so be it, right? You get no bonus points because you can hit a 7 iron 170 opposed to 160.
Good luck.
PS: How did you do at the tournament at Gibson Bay? (I don't think I already asked you that...sorry if I did)

Oh, I know, I was just curious. I'd rather hit it a club less and be consistent than gain a club and lose accuracy, anyday.
Thanks for asking, I did so-so. Shot a 78, really didn't play very well.
