Which Club Hits The Ball Further, Fairway Wood or a Hybrid?
Hello,
I am fairly new to golf and have a question about distance on certain clubs. I just bought some new clubs and confused on the distance which these clubs can hit.
I have the following clubs.
Adams Redline RPM fairway woods.
#3 15 degree reg flex
#5 19 degree reg flex
Adams I-wood Idea hybrid Irons.
#3 17 degree reg flex
#4 21 degree reg flex
Which club will hit further, the #5 wood 19 degree or a #3 I-wood hybrid 17 degree?
The #5 fairway wood has a longer shaft. But can someone tell me about the distance an average golfer wood hit with these 4 clubs.
The longer shafted fairway wood will generally hit the ball farther, because it will have a higher club head speed at impact. The other part of your question is too difficult to answer, since "average golfer" is hard to define. You'll have to hit the clubs yourself to determine YOUR average distance. That's the only thing that really matters.

I would have to agree. Depends on who is holding the club.
Yep, Fairway woods further...hybrids dispersion pattern tighter. If it's a shot to the green and I have a choice between fairway wood and hybrid, it's hybrid 99% of the time.

Could you maybe tell me the distance as far as each club should hit relative to the other clubs. For example.
#3 wood
#5 wood -10 yards back from #3 wood
#3 I-wood -20 yards back from #3 wood
#4 I-wood -30 yards back from #3 wood
I have a 1H 15 degree and a 3 wood 15 degree.Off the tee I hit the 1H 175 to 185 and the 3 wood 185 to 195 but on miss hits there is no comparison. The 1H is much better.Even on a pulled worm hole burner the ball will turn back towards the target and only loose 10 yards or so if that. The 1 H is a little harder to get up in the air though.
Out of the rough and off the fairway the 1H gets my nod also.Just easier to advance the ball.
I have a 19* hybrid graphite shaft that I hit nearly as far as my steel shafted 3 wood...I am getting reshafted and am looking forward to better distance gaps, but part of the problem is me as I can more consistently hit the hybrid well than I can the 3 wood...
Re: Which Club Hits The Ball Further, Fairway Wood or a Hybrid?
I would have to say the longer one would go farther if you could hit it in the center of the clubface all the time. Hybrid would be shorter but more consistent distances.
Of course, around < 19 * hybrids become harder for some players to hit effectively off the deck (i think because of declining head speed). I think that is why we see some players holding onto their 5W, where the longer shaft provide that extra head speed.
Re: Which Club Hits The Ball Further, Fairway Wood or a Hybrid?
This is entirely down to the individual. In theory a longer shafted club should hit the ball further ,but with a wider dispersion. However some players are more comfortable with a hybrid resulting in better and cleaner hit shots, therefore they hit it further.
