The club i received looks right in everyway. I called up Taylor Made customer service and checked the serial number and was told that it is not in their system. The serial number on this club is EA14XU.
I brought it to local Roger Dunn golf shop and have them inspected the club for me, both of the club sales people told me that they believe it is real.
I emailed the seller and he told me that the club is not counterfeit and is willing to give me a full refund. I asked him why the serial number doesn't show up in the system and he told me that he does not know why since he has never had the problem before.
I hit the club couple times and it seems to be alright but then I am not a professional.
Here is my concern, is it possible that this is a Japanese version of the Taylor Made R7 460? or this is just a REAL good counterfeit.
if the pros thinks it's real .. then it is probably a good chance it's real. if it hits good , then just dun think abt it . if u still not satisfied, go for the full refund and go buy one from authorised dealers .
i dun know if the r7 460 comes with the adjustable weights.. if they do , which i think it does , at least 2 of them , take them out and weight them if they meet the specifications ...assuming the guy provided the wrench that comes with it.
Just confirmed that this is not a Japanese version.
I am requesting for a full refund (I believe this is made by the same manufacturer that makes clubs for Taylor Made but not sold through Taylor Made channel).
If Taylormade says the serial number is not in their system, it is not a real Taylormade. The prod may think so, but Taylormade has very good record keeping when it comes to their serial numbers it is almost a religion with them.
I saw one of the r7's on ebay last night after reading a similar thread about them on here. I believe the BIN price was like 110.00, brand new! There is a good clue! The lengths folks will go to to make a buck! The one I looked at read in the description : No include headcover, No include tool. - Very good Inglesh Who'd sell several new r7s without the tool and headcover? I've bought most of my clubs through eBay, but guys be careful!
I heard somewhere the nonconforming clubs have no lines on the face.
I think it actually has to do w/the core(cor??) ratio being higher than .83. The SMT 455 has no grooves, and they claim it's still legal.
I could be wrong though... which is often the case.
I've been reading the forums quite a bit lately, because I almost got ripped off on a cameron putter knockoff, and the three biggest name brands that get counterfeited seem to be Cameron putters, Callaway irons, and TaylorMade woods.
Lordiano, that serial number is only 6 digits, and all the numbers on my 3 taylormades are 8. Also, I don't like how this guy keeps his feedback private. Usually means they've got something to hide.

The reason for it being illegal is most likely that the COR is above .830... the no score lines on the face is merely Taylormade's indicator of the non-conforming model, vs the conforming one... the USGA website doesnt have any listing for a non conforming r7 460 yet, however, that page is your best bet for checking up a club... example, the r580xd
notice that the telltale difference between conforming and not is the scorelines in the center of the face - but for each club its different - i believe that the hi-COR r7 quad had MAX written in place of the r7 upper toe on the face...
I have bought several TaylorMade clubs off of Ebay. I always ask for the serial number of the club being sold. I then call TaylorMade, they are always very helpful and seem really interested in helping me be sure of my purchase.
If the seller will not provide the serial number do not buy it. If the club shows up with a different serial number and TM does not recognize it, get your money back through PayPal. Always use paypal!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah keep the bogus club, and try it out. You never know, it may be the best free club you will ever hit, then again it could be a big steamer.

Thanks, that was the club my somewhat confused memory was thinking of.
