buying new irons

hey i have had my tommy armour 845s for 5 years now and they are worn down...but still love them and would marry them if they could have my children...ha. anyway...i know there is better equipment out there and my 4-iron and 9-iron had to be replaced w/ different clubs(lost 4-iron when i was drunk and head of 9-iron fell off never to be found on the first swing of a new season). not having these 2 clubs is frustrating b/c i was always a great lover of the 4-iron and now i have a ping zing 4 iron that has a totally different feel and my 9-iron is a palm springs from like 1990 that is about twice as heavy as my 845s. anyway...my options are to just get a whole new set..(always liked x-16 pros, ping i3s, ping i3+) or i could go on ebay and get a whole new set of 845s for considerably fair price. what do you think i should do? i could also go to golfsmith and get fitted for real...thought about a new driver too but i started smoking my driver this season (about 80% fairways hit) so i think i should keep it now...give me some input.

joe

Well althought they aren't in your list of options that you like, I would look into Mizuno's. I have the MP 32's and wouldn't trade them for anything.

I've never been a PING fan at all, so I can't give you much feedback there.

How inexpensive do you want to go? You can get Ben Hogans for real cheap these days, and not the gross Callaway undercut style of blades either. Apex Pros I got for $250 brand new on ebay.

my only problem with mizunos is that they feel a bit heavy to me...though i do love the way they look at address...mp-30s have always been a hit w/ people i know and mp-60 cut muscles seem to be the hottest on the market. i guess you could say the same thing about the weight of the x-16 pros..but they do provide that 2* extra distance per club which bumps me up 5 yards per club probably..

250/300 is probably what i'm looking at..i have hit apex pros and they were not my favorite..felt a bit clanky to me..but it has been a few years since i have hit them and my swing is much better now. i believe my boss (club pro) hit them for a good 3-4 years until he switched to mizunos.
