I've been playing a Hogan TI 4 (23 degree) graphite for a few weeks, and on the course and range, simply cannot hit it any farther than my Ping g2 5 iron averaged out. Occasionally goes a little higher, that is it. Has anyone discovered a fantastic hybrid that goes noticeably further, and is very easy to hit off the deck??? I have tried numerous brands (genex, callaway, Ping) with no luck. Hit a few Nike slingshots last week and it seemed better to me, but am getting tired of trading in/out. I definitely like the clubs that are closer to woods than irons. Thanks. PS> Retired the G5 driver today, new R7 460 arrived, and it was amazing on the range.
I wish I was in Maui, but you probably need to look at your goals with the hybrid. If you can hit a 5 iron well with consistency, you should not replace it. You should look into a hybrid replacing your 4-iron or 3 iron (whichever needs replacing). I hit a Hogan CFT 2 (19 degrees) off the deck and off the tee well and get a good flight from it, so my 3 iron is history.
If you want more distance, find a club that feels good and then get the appropriate loft, and you will get the extra distance. Hybrids do make sense for most people.

I have two that give great height and distance...Sonartec MD/Irod and TM rescue dual tp/stock diamana...I don't know if they are more or less like woods, all hybrids save the driving iron types seem to play the same to me, but the difference that I have found is that these two are easier to work, esp. in shot height variation (Sonartec being the more workable of the two), both have a higher center of gravity than a typical rescue type club and seem to give a more dynamic ball flight (read climbing vs. ballooning)...both are very solid at impact, esp. the sonartec which seems to be constructed exceptionally well...

Thanks, I guess I should probably keep trying with lower loft. Has been disappointing to hit these replacement 4s the same as my 5 most of the time. Almost wish it was an inch longer for 10 more yards since the height is ok, just goes nowhere

Thanks, sounds like you're a much better ball striker than me. I'd be happy just hitting a hybrid straight, 180 yards, and high enough to stay on the green. Just cannot accomplish that. The few hybrid 3s I tried seem to go too low. Even though I hit my driver 245-250, 5 iron 170, and 8 hcp, I am a low ball hitter and cannot elevate these hybrids for some reason. Do much better with 7 wood, not as consistently straight, too many mishits, but long enough when connected right. I hit the Taylor duel last week, seemed like very good club but didn't work for me
I like my callaway hybrid. I hit it better than my 3 iron - always longer and straighter. It took me the season to get used to it and now I would not go back.

I was going to suggest a 9 wood, as obviously they are more like woods then irons. They also have a shorter shaft then the 7 wood, making center contact easier.
Being an 8 handicap, this probably doesn't apply to you,but it may be the longer shaft of the hybrid, keeping you from good contact, hence, loss of distance.Have you tried a Tour Edge Jmax hybrid? They have the same length shaft as the corresponding iron, so they're easier to hit.I have a 6, and am going to get the 4 and 5. Very easy to get in the air and accurate.
I have a Nike CPR 2i, and a MacGregor MacTec 4i hybrid. I got the Nike first, and had real problems getting it very high. I would get good distance, but very low ball flight. Then I got the MacTec, and found it very easy to hit. After working on my swing some I pulled the CPR out again. With a mediocre but easy swing I was getting great distance and height (for me at least). I would highly recommend either of them, but when I go to buy my next hybrid it will probably be a MacTec 3. It just feels easier to hit well. I normally shoot in the mid 90's for what that is worth.

Thanks, I guess psychologically I've avoided woods shorter than a 7 wood, but that should not be applicable anymore with average swing speeds and distances (7-150, 5-170, 5 wood- 200). 2 issues with me 1) very low ball hitter, which will not ever change much 2) at least once a round the distance I need to cover (180) will be for a potential round making or breaking shot, whether it be a par 3 or shot over H2O, and I have suffered more with a missed wood shot (7 wood), than iron, although both not infrequent bad results, hence need to try hybrid which. I guess I need to try a 9wood or lower and see what happens.

I had a CPR for a month and initially liked it, but hit it too low for what I needed. I need to try the MAC, I saw it got good reviews, thanks
I just have a middle of the range wilson hyrib, it plays best out of the rough i hit it 180-200 out of rough and fairway, and its a safe bet down the fairway
