I have an old slightly heavier custom made wood putter made by a local guy.
I take it to the course once in awhile. It's alot of fun to play. The weight and
feel is very nice. Playing with old clubs like this is a fun adventure into the past.

Oh, you don't have to slam a wood putter to get it moving... unless it's made of balsa!

Here's one for ya .......

Why do you think companies put urethane inserts in their metal putters?

To ... slow ... them ... down ... and get better feel ...

That's exaxtly correct, they want to slow the ball speed off the face of the putter. And I use a polymer insert in the face of my wooden putters, to "increase" the ball speed, and make the face of the putter harder and wear better. With the polymer insert, the face is "hotter" and it doesn't get any small ball indents in it as it would if the face was all wood.

Louisville has both wood putters with metal inserts, and metal putters with a wood inserts.

Do two different animals do the same thing?

. . . . .

I didn't realize that there were that many companies making wood putters. Interesting.

I've owned one in the past. Outstanding feel and decent alignment. I figured I could sell that one easier than my others, and I did.. I can putt just as bad with a cheap one

I have three Louisville Golf putters...a maple headed mallet which is face balanced and heel shafted, a TC-1 Anser style with persimmon insert and a persimmon Stimp model, center shafted and face balanced. The Stimp model has interchangeable weights and it's a sweet putting machine. I don't have any particular problem with dings, either. The wooden heads give you fantastic feel and control too.
