Nippon Shafts

My kid is down in Florida at the Leadbetter academy. They changed her iron shafts to Nippon. She has MP-32s and they used to have dynamic gold SL R-300s. They say the Nippon is lighter, and tip softer. She says they are killer and hit the ball higher and longer and are lighter. She also says they feel "springy" (her words). Anyone have any comments or observations on the Nippon steel shafts??

It is true.....that is exactly what they do. They were designed for Asian players who usually do not kill the ball with every swing. They had to test them on US players before they would put a warranty on them for the USA because US players usually swing hard at the ball.

I have demoed them in 32s and hated them after 200 balls...it was hook city and felt too light for my tastes...did hit better when I slowed it down, but definetly not as accurate as s300s for my swing...
Quick sidenote concerning Japanese tastes...I just got back from Japan and while I was there was looking for a mizuno mp fli hi 18*...I was "Oooh nooo!! ed" out of every golf shop I stopped in until my Japanese colleuge laughingly informed me that Japanese don't like long irons and simply don't use driving irons...it makes sense as the average Indonesian golfer on my home course hits a wood or hybrid if the shot is 150yds or longer...

Thanks Guys

Thanks for the information. Makes sense. They probably are perfect for my daughter. She seems to think so. She tells me they are the number one shaft on the LPGA tour. They also took her Fuji speeder out of her driver and put in a Graffaloy Blue. She says the Blue hits it higher but is not as consistent as the Speeder. Distance about the same but carry is further with the Blue.

I've hit them in the 950's and the 1150's, and my results confirm what a lot of others have said. The 950's (and presumably the 850's) play soft to flex. I usually play R flex to firm flex shafts in mywoods, and firm to stiff in my irons. The 950 R flex was just a bit too soft on some hybrids I have. I replaced them with SR (firm) flex, and I get great results. I've played the 950 S flex in irons and they played well, though the overall weight of the club was a bit light for my tastes. I currently have 1150 S flex in my irons, and they are great for feel, distance, and control.
The 950's (and probably the shafts even lighter than that) play a bit soft to flex, but the 1150's are about right to flex. They FEEL more flexible than they actually are because they are a mid-kick shaft that is a bit tip soft compared to DG's which are high kick, tip firm shafts. But even though they feel softer, the dispersion is plenty tight. I'm a big fan of Nippon shafts at this point. I'm more of a swinger than a hitter.
