Hybrid Take 10/ Slingshot??

Revisiting hybrids for 10th time or so. I currently have a Hogan TI 4, very inconsistent to me, I just can't see the hype. Then again, I have failed miserably with several others as well, including older Taylor model, Cleveland Halo, and Genex. I was thinking of trying the Nike Slingshot, since it seems more like a wood than ironwood. Anyone have any experience with this one, or other hybrid which is more like a wood than iron???

i think you should stop spending money o diffent clubs and take a lesson or two. if you can hit any of those, its probobly not the clubs that are inconsistant, but you

There's much truth to that. I am an 8 handicap (at least this week), and hit my fairway woods and irons thru 5-6 fine. I simply cannot figure out the hybrids. Hit about 50% ok shots, but letting me down all the time. However, I definitely do better with the ones that are more like a wood (played Nike CPR for several months, but decided didn't like it that much). Could never hit the Genex, and as stated before, the Hogan is better but just not working. 90 %+ is me, but I need to max out the other 10% with best technology for my swing. I like the look of the slingshot and saw it got good reviews. Thanks. I need all the help I can get in this 180-190 yd range (have the 210 and <170 covered).

i kinda agree with socalef9...you should probably get a lesson. although, i have to admit, i have not been able to hit a hybrid with any degree of satisfaction either...

I probably could use a dedicated hybrid lesson/lessons. I just have been underwhelmed by them, and the final straw was hitting 2 weak hybrid 4s 2 days ago which cost me 4 strokes and some $$. I will not give up on technology though, and know that some of the larger wood ones seem to be more forgiving for me. Just ordered a used Bobby Jones Ortiz while posting here about the Slingshot in fact. The constant attempt to purchase a needed shot continues. Oh well.

No offense taken at all, thanks. Lessons, with best possible weapons in the bag, sounds like good advice. Hunting for new weapons today.

I'm playing with the original Nike CPR wood. The head is indeed more like a fairway wood, but the biggest plus for me is that it is a 1 to 1 club replacement. The shafts are the same length as the equivalent iron. The CPR iron in the same loft has a longer shaft, so it messes with my iron to iron gaps. I'm using the 22 degree as a 4 iron replacement, and the 18 as my 3 iron replacement. Haven't tried the Slingshot, but people talk about it as the next evolution of the CPR wood. These things work great out the rough. They power through the tall stuff and don't dig.

If you want one that performs slightly more like a fairway wood, try the Srixon AD. It's awesome. It's a just little larger than say a Taylor made, and it's got a real wood type 'ping' at impact. Especially awesome with the NV Hybrid shaft. A very easy club to hit. I tried alot of hybrids before settling on this one. I'm mostly playing Innovex gear now, and I have an Innovex 4 hybrid which is great, but I can't take my Srixon 3h out of the bag. It's too good.

But I agree with the others who have said that the problem is probably how you're hitting them. You're obviously a good golfer with that handicap, but maybe your approach to this style of club is wrong. They should be hit more like an iron than a fairway wood. You need to hit down on them rather than trying to sweep them. Try using the same swing you might for say a 5 or 6 iron.

Given the amount of hybrids you've tried, I doubt your going to suddenly stumble across one that works. You need to figure out what you're doing wrong.

If you have no problem with fairway woods, why not try a 9 wood, an 11 wood, or even a 13 wood? That way, there would be no real change necessary.

Instead of the nickent ironwood, try the utility wood. I demoed it and liked it a lot. It's just like a wood with a shorter shaft for control and a little smaller head.

Thanks, I originally liked the CPR, best of breed to me, but then it turned bad. That's why I was exploring the Slingshot.

Thanks, I like the sound of this one. I will definitely research this. Yes, need to hit down, not sweep, doesn't work when I need it.

Gary Player loves his 9 wood. We're both the same height, with similar swings except his is 50X better than mine obviously. If all these hybrids fail, a nine it will be.

I didn't know they had the bigger one, I think I had the other. Will investigate, thanks.
