Question Ben Hogan Irons

I've been playing with a cheap set of beginner irons for a few years now and i am interseted in getting a new set for X-mas. Im not looking for a really expensive set just somthing a little better than what im using now. Ive always liked the Ben Hogan clubs and the bh-5 irons look appealing. They feel nice at address and are not going to break the bank. What do you guys think of these clubs? Are there any other sets around the same price range worth looking at?

If you like forged semi-blade cavity backs, you can get Ben Hogan Apex Pros on Ebay for $200+

I play the Apex Edge Pros and really like them. The BH5 are cast whereas the other Hogan irons are forged - if that matters to you. There are new sets of Edge Pros on ebay and one set on another golf board I participate on. If you are intersted in those, I think the seller is asking $360 for the set. A new set went for $280 on ebay this last week.

It's in the way they're made. Typically, a forged club will have a smoother, softer feel to it at impact. Any forged Hogan is far superior in feel to the bh-5, which, in my opinion, is essentially a Sunburst stamped Callaway. It looks eerily similar to the old x-12's, short the s2h2 hosel.

A forged Iron is crafted from a block of steel, where a cast club is melted steel poured into a mold, and then allowed to cool. As stated, forged irons are much softer, and normally preferred by better players. They are also generally more expensive. Casting is a cheaper process.

Link not working....

I don't think it's really that we don't think much of it, just that it's not exactly the best use of that money out there... Hogans are best known as quality forgings, and there are Hogan forgings that you can find out there for the same or even a lesser price than the bh-5... for me it's just, when you're looking at a primarily forged brand, why settle for their investment cast irons?

I have the Apex Edge. I hit them well. Would I have issues if I switched to the Apex Edge Pro or plus? The plus has more offset than the Pros.
