With some of my Xmas money I am going to pick up a new driver. But since I am also buying some new irons with my xmas money, it will leave me about $100 to play around with for the driver. I am currently playing a R540XD that I bought used for only $20. The driver is great, but I need a stiff shaft. I looked into buying a shaft for it, but for a $20 driver, I would rather use that money towards a new one or better driver. I have considered buying a new
R540XD with stiff shaft on ebay. Looks like they go new for around $60. But wanted to see what everyone else though about a driver for this price range.

Take a look at the 580xd on ebay...you might be able to come across one with the shaft that you are looking for with a decent price...
How big of a difference is there between the 540XD and 580XD?
Bigger head size, a bit more forgiving on mis hits...580xd has indentations on the top of the head which assist in lining up (I found it quite useful)...at 440cc it is not quite as big as the max limit, but pretty close...it is also the club that was the precursor to the moveable weight line for TM...essentially an r7 without the weights and to hear from the owner's reviews, every bit as good if not better than the newer models...I would stay away from anything with a stock shaft however and look for a shaft that you have demoed and suits you...
I have a few other choices from the component industry you might be intersted in.
The Big Bang 450
The DVF Forged
The Integra SoooLong 450
These will come with your choice of shafts from
AccuFLEX Tour Elite
AccuFLEX C.A.S.
Swing Science 200 Series
Graman Competition
All are very nice drivers for the price and all have proven themselves over the last year or 2 with great feedback from customers. There is other options but these 3 are the tops in the under a $100 catagory.
Hope you are able to find what your looking for and let me know if you have any questions.
I use a TM540 10.5(no XD) and love it. I also use a TM580XD 9.5 and love it. The 540 was my first driver and newer,,paid $124( didn't know about auction ebay)...just bought the 580XD on eBay for $51+ very good club. They can be bought on ebay. Just watch that its what you want....
I had been looking at that Ben Hogan driver. It plays well the huh? I have a slice that is partly due to that I need a stiff shaft and partly my swing mechanics.
I paid $89 for a brand new Mizuno MP-001, and $99 for a Ping G2 last December, a few weeks before Christmas. Got both at Golf Galaxy's grand opening, and I couldn't be happier with either one of them. The G2 has a Prolaunch shaft, and the MP-001 has a NVS shaft. So you can find good drivers out there for under $100 if you look hard enough and get lucky. When you figure that the NVS shaft sells for $87.50, I think I did pretty good getting the whole driver for $89. Did I mention I had a coupon for $10 off when I got the MP, so it really only cost me $79?
