Question Hitting irons out on the toe....

Hi guys, I've been amember for some time now but haven't posted until now. I guess everything's been OK until now. I play to a 10 handicap (or did) and have neen playing for many years. My forte' has always been very solid iron play. Recently I bought a set of Big Bertha 2004 irons with graphite shafts and ever since then I hit almost every shot out on the toe of the club and tend to pull the ball slightly. It almost feels like the clubs are too short but they are standard length and lie. I've never experienced this problem before and am very frustrated over it. HELP!!

the weighting in your previous set of irons is probably totally different than the weighting in the callaways. go to the range with both sets and see what happens.

Buff without knowing more about your previous set my guess right now is that the swing weight has chaged enough to throw off your swing.

lie angle could also be different between the two sets. Shaft flex, also could be a problem if you are a fast swinger , judging by your user name you might be. So why go with the graphite shafts ? The norm for graphite is they are for slower weaker swingers to get faster speeds due to the lightness and longer length. You could also be causing shaft droop if you are over powering the shaft.

Also keep in mind that if you had steel shafts before, the standard length for steel and graphite are different. Graphite being longer.

I'm 60 years old and never been a very fast swinger-probably around 85-90 mph with a five iron. But the swing weight may have had an effect. I was playing with Titleist steel shafted irons before I got these. If that turned out to be the case, what would I need to do to correct the problem?

thats a question for Viper, but i think you should obtain the specs on each set of irons and see if you can make your new set more like your old irons.

Well as far as swing weight, the cheapest thing you can do is go get you some lead tape and mess around with that, until you get where you want to be. Not for sure on this one, but I think its 1g of lead tape = 1 sw point. And 1 g of lead tape is about an inch long.

90 mph with a 5 iron is pretty fast, that would put you up around 195-200 yard carry with that club, and if all things carry on being equal around 115+ for the driver. Which is by far, way above being slow.

What flex are the shafts?

Graphite shafts are usually 1/2" longer than steel.
