who has used the belly putters?

So what was your thoughts? I know they are not the greatest looking thing, and will stick out of your bag a bit, but hey if it cuts down 2 putts a round I can live with it.

I have only practiced with a belly. I have been using a long putter most of this season. I experimented with one back in the day, and got one this season when I started playing again. If you have never tried one, I think you are doing your game a disservice. Even Pelz is high on them.

All I do is get set up and just try and roll the ball to the hole with my right hand. That takes most of the thought out of it and makes it closer to a reaction/athletic motion.

It helped reduce/eliminate my wristi-ness in the stroke. If you have too much wrist action, give it a try. If you have other putting problems, this is not a solution.

I don't have a wrist break down, but just thought they are the way to go.

Pick-it-up What do you say about the pro's who use it? There are a whole lot more going to that now, which is why I asked. I really wouldn't care if somone was cracking jokes about a belly putter as long as I was sinking more birds.

I wouldn't agree with that. I was always above average with the short stick.

You guys are right- I'm not trying to criticize anyone.

It's just that the guys I've seen (weekend duffs) using the broom handles couldn't have been much worse with a conventional set up. I've never seen a good putter (personally) using a long handle. And using the belly really seemed to mess with them on shorter putts.

I know there are pros that use long putters and I'm not saying it's stupid or wrong at all. Guys like Langer have been sweeping forever with success. It's just another putting method.

I tried one at Golfsmith yesterday and to be honest with you, it made putting seem so easy, almost like you are cheating, lol! I would really like to buy one soon, because I am just an average putter, and that would DEFINITLEY help my game out. Two thumbs up!

I might be able to just reshaft my monza corza with one of those longer shafts and see how that works. If I dont like it I could always just put the old one back in. And then I am only out 10 bucks.

I agree with this. The times I've been paired with guys who use this approach, I've always wondered just how bad were they with a conventional putter. They've been mediocre to a man. The pros are a different animal. From a form, mechanics, touch and expectations standpoint, even the worst of them are operating in a whole different realm than most of the rest of us. Most amatuers who resort to this likely have a slew of putting issues that will not be helped by it, IMO. But hey, whatever works for you...

I agree with pick it up and waz. I found these to be ok for long putts but for short putts I couldnt come close. Now that Ive gone back to the normal putter and fixed my swing and practiced Im 100 times better then with the ole broom stick.

in Pelz putting bible he says these are better for short putts. Everyone increased their putting % from inside 10 feet with the long putter. Long putts were not as good, because they were not used to the feel and distance control with the new stroke.
