Question Ping I5

I am thinking on buying a set of I5s. I got to play last Sunday and told the local Pro that I was maybe looking for a new set of irons he gave me a demo I5 in a 6 iron cut a half inch short and a 2degree flat lie. I could not believe that this would make that much of a difference but Iswear it added 12 yrds to my current 6 iron. I am currently playing Nicklaus progressives but my wife told me she would buy me the I5s for Xmas. I am Looking for opinions on these Irons from guys or gals that have used them.
Thanks Shorty

They are nice irons. I don't play them because I like forged clubs but I did hit them and liked them a lot. All the reviews say they are very quality made clubs so they should last a while too. Get fitted for them and I think you will like them. Ping's fitting system is really good IMO. I would suggest trying the cg4's from cleveland also. They have great feel.

I have I5's. I had Ping EYE 2's for many years then I made the mistake, for me, of getting some Callaway Big Bertha's - I never was comfortable with them so went to and Edwin Watts outside Atlanta to try the latest Pings (this was in October of 2005). They lent me the 3, 6 and 9 from the G5, I5 and S59 ranges. I was able to play all 3 styles very well and liked the feedback from all of them. I went for the I5's as I felt that for those off days, they would be more forgiving than the S59s and I would be able to control the ball better than with the G5s.

i have actually never hit pings, but i have only heard that they are the best clubs that can be fitted to any player. i must say that just by looking, i wouldn't buy them because they're "pretty", but who cares.

im kinda in the market for new irons within the next year, so i will check the pings out. any suggestions on a good iron for a player who shoots 92-95 regularly and wants to break 90?

Tachus, once again I would suggest the cg4's if you want forgiveness without taking away the good feel of a soft club. I also suggest the r7's. If you dont want to spend that much take a look at the macgregor m565's. Thet are a mid to oversized iron with great forgiveness and they are forged so they have that sweet feel. They also have the easiest long irons that I have ever hit and they are at rockbottomgolf.com right now for 249 with rifle shafts.

By the way, if you want to break 90 and you don't consider yourself a good putter then I suggest going to get a putter fitted for you. This is the best thing that I have ever done to my game. They got me to where my eyes are over the ball and I rarely ever even think about three putting anymore. The stroke was just freed up for some reason. Just a tip, hope it helps, This is what got me breaking 80 consistently. Plus when you know your a decent putter it takes some pressure off of the rest of your game and allows you hit some better approach shots. Theres just a little less pressure to hit it close all the time.

I can sure vouch for Triple`s compatability with those Pings.....the chap murdered me on the course with them recently...... . !

Still playing my old eye 2s, but from what I've researched and heard from those playing them, I'll be getting fitted for the i5s - looking at the cg4s as well.

Well just got fitted for a set of of I5s . I was measured for 1degree flat lie and 3/4 inch short which made no sense to me till the fitter explained it to me I was worried about losing distance with the shorter shaft but he assured me I would hit the ball more square and may even add a few yards. Does this make sense. I have never been fitted for clubs before. Now the big question HOW do I tell the wife I just bought 750$ golf clubs when my old set is less than a year old. They are on the market by the way.........lol.

More solid contact will make a diference provided you were not hitting ball solidly before. hope he adjusted swingweight and lie going 3/4" under.

True, if the shorter shafts do indeed cause you to make better contact ( which they should) then you will not lose distance.

I do not know about the swingweight but he did adjust for the lie he said it would be 1 degree flat since I tend to want to raise the toe a address position does this sound right, the guy is a ping fitter was on there top ten list 2 yrs agoso I assume he adjusted everything he watched me swing and hit balls for quite awhile.

Im sure they will be fine. If they do feel a little light in the head they can always be adjusted at a latter date.
