100$ clubs vs 1000$ clubs any real difference?

I bought my current set of clubs (new) for 100$. I keep hearing this repeated that it's not the clubs that make a good golfer it's the swing. I don't intend to buy another set of clubs until my current set breaks apart or I get much much better.

I am wondering though, if I had a set of 1000$ or even 5000$ custom-fitted clubs would that have any real effect on my distance? I don't mean an 10 extra yards, I'm thinking in terms of another 40 or 50 yards. That's what I mean by effect.

No, it wouldn't have that much effect. Properly fitted clubs will help, and they will make a difference to your game, but it's doubtful they'd ever give you an extra 40 or 50 yards, unless your current clubs were absolute rubbish, as in didn't work properly.

It IS the golfer, not the clubs, but most of us need all the help we can get. Good clubs properly fitted can definitely help.

I started with cheaper clubs similar to these and I a now using nike pro combos. I find with the higher end clubs they have alot nicer feel and alot more resonsive. However with that said I dont think youd get anywhere near 50yrds with new irons unless of course those irons are rubbish as was said above.

5000$ clubs ? have you been visiting bomb sqaud golf lately ?

But you will get some advances over 100 dollar clubs in the terms of quality control and feel, also components. but you won't gain 40-50 yards. You would gain just the same to say 500$ clubs.

Thanks for the replies

It's just as I expected, my lousy shots are because my swing is bad, not my clubs. I guess when I get better at golf I'll go and upgrade my clubs to the 500$ or 1000$ level, sounds like it would be worth it once I reach that point. Currently though I would just end up ruining them, so I'll stick with my cheaper clubs.

Cheaper clubs are just fine for someone who's only been playing for a short time. A few problems with really cheap clubs: the grips will wear quickly and become slick - so watch for that. Another problem: sometimes a head might come loose.

You really don't need to look for quality clubs until you can consistently find the clubface.

I recently took some counterfeit callaway irons out on the course, just for kicks before tossing them in the garbage. These clubs are complete junk. And, I hit them just fine. (but I still tossed them in the garbage)
