I read on another golf website that Nike outsources its golf ball production, allegedly to Bridgestone, but all the design is done in-house. I found that really interesting and had never heard that before.
Anybody know if there is any truth to that? Are the Nike SuperSofts I like to play actually pseudo-Bridgestones?
I would say that Nike, and Titleist farm out the manufacturing of there golf balls to companies such as Bridgestone, Dunlop and others but the design and standards that these are balls are made too, are controlled by Nike or Titleist. My wife worked for years for a company that made kids sleep wear what was interesting is that they made along with there own brand and also JC Penny’s, Sears, Macys, and other large department stores on lines side by side but the specs for each one was controlled by the retailer. So it would not be a surprise to me that Bridgestone did not make Nike or Titleist golf balls.
Bridgestone has been manufacturing the golf balls for many companies. The design is from Nike (from what I know). Please note that originally, Bridgestone designed and developed the balls for Nike, but then Nike ball sales grew and they had design teams to a point where they now design their balls.
Bridgestone officials said they are seeking an injunction against Acushnet from infringing upon their patents and for unspecified compensation for damages that have occurred as a result of past infringement. In addition, Bridgestone asked the court for a declaratory judgment of non-infringement with respect to four U.S. patents owned by Acushnet.
