head covers for irons

Anyone use them? I'm kind of picky and don't want bag chatter on my new sticks. Do the neoprene ones protect at all or should I go with the thicker ones?

The caddy rack is the best. Keeps the irons in a row without banging them into each other.

I made fun of my dad when he first got them... but after glancing at my current clubs that have been banged around for years.. I just don't want my new ones to look like that.

I'm thinking about getting a set of iron covers, not for on the course, but just for when they're being transported, stored, etc. I don't want to take the time to take an iron cover off every time I use one on course, however, I think it'd be nice to have on my new clubs on other times.

My irons are forged and I didn't want them dinged up. I don't care what people think about head covers.

I don't care what others think either, as my irons look nice and new and the clatter is kept down when I'm walking. I've been using iron covers for many years, so my playing partners don't make fun of them anymore (especially since I normally beat them )

Here are a couple of threads where this has been discussed before:

Iron covers... do or dont

haha.. seems like quite the hot button issue. To each his own...

I personally want to take good care of my clubs. My head cover only leaves my driver & fairway wood & putter when they are used.. and right back on after the shot. Doesn't slow down my play one bit. I've used my dad's sticks with head covers and it is no problem for me. I could care less if someone thinks I'm a "newbie" or whatever. I'm not there to impress anyone. :)

I'm really just curious about neoprene vs other... is one actually more prone to rust or not, etc

The only time I use iron covers is when I am flying with my clubs. Never trust those baggage handlers. As far as the course goes, my bag has minimal banging when I walk. As far as beating up my clubs; oh well, it will give me an excuse to get a new set earlier than planned.

If you ride alot, head covers are a good choice. All that banging around will definitely make those nice new forged irons look like ****
I just bought a set of the neoprene covers but haven't got them yet. I cant see why they would be any different than other covers as far as rust goes.

The covers are worth it if you are looking to protect your investment.

I just got a set of Mizuno MX 900's. Had neoprene covers sitting in my basement but decided that I didn't want to get my new clubs dinged up.

I even keep them on when walking the course. I wear cargo pants so when i take a shot, the cover goes into my side pocket.
I don't care what people say, it does not slow up play. they slip on and off with ease.

I like the neoprene covers. BUT heres a funny story from today. I accidently put the "5" cover over my 2 day old wedge. When i went to grab my wedge, i couldnt find it! Ended up driving back 3 holes in search, called the pro shop, and after the front 9 drove around again from 1-9. gave up because it was already dark. when i was organizing my stuff off the cart, i figured it out. WHEW! I use them wherever I go, wipe off the club w/ towel after shot and throw em back on.

My take: they are a 10 on the dorkometer but once again, if you don't care and/or can beat most anyone you play with, head on.
