Does anyone have any experience or opinions on the Almost Golf practice balls that are out. They say they have the same trajectory and travel 1/3 the distance as a normal golf ball so you can see the shot shape and have a good idea of the actual distance when practicing in your back yard.
I got a box of 10 for $10 and tried them out the other day. There are two trees in my backyard that I use for practicing because they sit about 40 yards apart. So I grabbed my PW and took a full swing. Sure enogh it flew just a few feet past the tree and had a nice flight to it. Only thing I didnt like was that they were easily affected by wind but when the ball is that light in weight it is expected.
I've used 'em for about 6 months and they pretty much do as they say like you've found out. I like 'em anyway, and they won't damage the house or cars either.......extensive testing on my part
I bought a sleeve of 4 balls. I use them mainly for chipping (working on my stroke) when the kids are around. They're alot better than the plastic wiffle balls. I've never used them outside though.
I've really enjoyed using them. My one very minor complaint is that they are not dog-proof. The dog usually takes no interest, but once in a while the mood will stirke her to take off after one. It is really only a minor complaint because while there are teeth marks in the ball now, it does not seem to have affected the ball in any way.
Since they retail for around $1 a ball, and most driving ranges in my area are about 9-10 cents a ball, I figure as long as I hit each one 10 times or more, it was worth it, plus not driving to the range. I can work on that ever-present hook, can practice alighnment, pretty much everything without worry about houses or cars, as said above.
My brother uses them all the time and hits them over his house from the backyard, when miss hits they do no damage to the house or windows.I`ve tried them and they work pretty well, except in the wind as stated above.
They hit just like a golf ball but they go too far. On their website they show a guy hitting them in a backyard the size of mine. But when I hit a half wedge they cleared the house and the front yard and landed in the street. If you had a yard 80-100 yards long they would be a lot of fun.
I have a huge yard, 6 acres, and they are great. I can hit a driver, full swing. They are best for practicing short irons, and pitches. They will never replace a real golf ball, but like someone said, they will not break anything, and they can be used forever.
Did Pelz recently add his name to these balls or something? I didn't see any reference to that. I recently got some and they were touted as the Pelz practice ball, then upon closer examination I did see the Almost Golf moniker on there.
They're not bad. Probably travel a bit too far for the average backyard though.
what is the difference between a ball that says practice and a regular ball. i heard the practice balls are used by pros at tounaments for practice and there is no difference. does anyone know.
