can you point me in the direction of some new irons?

ive recently took up the game after 2 years out and have started to really get my game going, after 2 weeks ive been shooting in the low to mid 80s. the only part of my game really stopping me from getting down even further at the moment is off the tee and putting.

My Dad is that impressed with my scores he asked if i needed a new set of irons. i thought about it and the ones i have been using are an old set of top flight tour cavity backs that are about 10 years old.

im wanting to spend about £150 to £200, i dont mind second hand or ebay. i have a medium swing speed and hit a 9 iron about 125ish yards. i do have trouble getting my low irons off the deck but have got a couple of rescue clubs to sort that out. i also play on a links course so need something that isnt going to fly the ball too high. im not really too fussed on brands just as long as they do the job.

im not really that bothered on shaping shots either, i do find these cavity backs hard to hit when my game isnt there, is this just the clubs or am i doomed to use chunky clubs like callaway forever?

You can try the Taylormade LT or LT2's. They aren't as 'chunky' as most, have a more boring ball flight, and should be in that price range. If you were able to up the price range a bit, you can get yourself a set of Mizuno MX-23 or if you are lucky MP-32's. In the For Sale section here, there are MP-30's, LT2's, and TM MB's.

Id say look at Nike. Personally I use the pro combos which allow a more wedge like short irons and the long irons are easy to get up.
