Cobra S9 irons

I know these irons are quite new, but I would like to have some information.
I currently have Tommy armour 845U Silverback irons which are supposed to be great game-improvment irons. My question is would the S9 be more forgiving? By a large margin?? This is my third year of playing and I feel that I need the most forgiving irons possible (I mentionned irons and not shovels)

They seem to have wider sole, great technology and made the Golfdigest 2007 hotlist as the editor's choice.

What do you think of these?

I can't really help you with your question, but I can tell you that I didn't like these clubs when I tried them a little over a week ago. I've never really been a fan of cobra irons (personal preference) and I hit about 8 balls and just didn't like the way they look/feel.

I've never hit the cobra's but if you want super game improvement I would point you in the direction of the nike slingshot oss. However they are shovels. Cleveland cg4's are a good game improvement iron with great feel and your game could grow with them for a long time. These are far from shovels.

I've tried the Slingshot OSS and like them better than the S9's. If you just want a regular set (not custom fit), rockbottomgolf.com has them for $399 with steel shafts. Personally, I'd want to get them fit for me, but if you just want to get the regular ones thats a good deal.

another recomendation for game improvement irons would be the mizuno mx 17's or the newer mx 19's, which i have and i love them, they are super game improvement irons. For a little lower profile and still great forgiveness you could go with the mizuno mx 23's or 25's

I was thinking about the S9 first and the MX-19 second. But the question is if those would be more forgiving and easier to hit than the 845U??

Hmmm.... I have'nt hit the 845's so I'm really not qualified to answer but I do know that the mx's are VERY forgiving.

Never having tried the Armour's you're talking about, I can't really compare. Go down to your local shop and try out the S9's, you may think they are the best clubs for you, who knows.

Re: Cobra S9 irons

I currently play a complete set of 855 S's with graphite shafts. I have been playing them for quite some time now and have learned to hit them well over the years. I have been reading the reviews about the S9's and was impressed. But you know anyone can right anything. So I headed down to the local shop and hit a few with the S9's myself. I must say the feel was quite different for me. But wow...these clubs were easy to hit. I started out hitting each with a little draw which is new for me. I adjusted the grip a bit and continued hitting. I was impressed. I hit the S9's a bit longer than the 855's but I liked the launch and forgiveness of the clubs a lot. I will have to adjust my game some due to the length differences...but I walked out with a new set of Cobra S9's and a new bag to boot.

Re: Cobra S9 irons

I never got along with the Cobra S9s (demoed). They did get generate some great reviews on the net from higher-handicappers though. If you are going super-game impovement (20+ handicap), check out the Nike Slingshot and R7 Draw too.

If you are looking for something that is very forgiving yet not a shovel, check out the Cobra FP. Great club.
