I'm wanting to change my irons this year and I'm looking for input from anyone who has played Callaway or Taylormade. I currently play MX-23's, but I'm looking to change to something with more feel. I just read the 2007 Hot List in Golf Digest, and after studying the Players Irons, I was thinking of trying out the X-20 Tour and the r7 TP irons. One thing that did confuse me was that they said "the X-Tour irons were nearly perfect". If thats so, then why are they discontinuing them? Is it a better iron that the X-20 tour? I realize that the bottom line is that in the end, I must find something that I feel is right for me, but it always helps to get input from those who have already tested out these same clubs. Thanks for any advice on these or any other irons!
Well neither of the irons you are asking about are forged. Your mizunos are forged and probably have a little softer feel than the x 20 tours or the r7 tp's. Callaway is calling their new forged irons the x forged instead of x tour but their is really no discontinuance, just a new name and an updated design. Out of the irons you mentioned I like the r7 tp's because they have the best feel that I have hit for a cast iron. I have'nt hit the x 20 tour yet. I just never have really liked the mizunos. For a great feeling iron check out the srixon i 506 or wait on the new nike cci's. Nikerep says those cci's are great.
Definately take a look at the Adams Idea Pro. They're forged and come with a 3 & 4 hybrid or you can get a tri tech 4 iron. Great feeling forged clubs and theyre beautiful.

Oh geez...ur judging what you want by the "hot list" NE WAY....the r7 tp's aren't bad irons..I like those much more than the X-20's!
I was looking at irons and I'd go with the TP's. I have the regular R7's that are on their way to my house and the TP's were nice, but just not for me. I needed a little more forgiveness. If I were you, I'd go with the R7's over the Callaways.
Go to a golf store and try out as many irons as you can, then decide which iron to buy. Iron's are very individual and some clubs look good to me, but don't look good to others. I personally hate the thick callaway irons, but they might work for you.
callaway makes the WORST irons for players, they should put out something other then a thick CB, the X Tours PUSH it for me, they still are too thick for me, but I'd go with taylormade irons, the R7 TP's are really nice, and the RAC MB's would be mine if it werent for the Mizunos I wanted, so im going with Taylormade
I think feel has a lot to do with the player. If you're a decent player and can hit the ball in the center of the clubface majority of the time you're going to think anything feels good. If you consistantly hit it off the toe, heel, blade, etc...simply changing irons isn't going to do anything for your feel.
I don't think you can really listent to what the hot list says either. I could be wrong, but I'd say there is some money switching hands there for these companies to get the rankings they do.

uhhh...I'm not sure what you want to accomplish, but whatever it is, it looks like the answer is already in your bag--in other words, nothing that you're considering is "better" than what you now have, so why fix what isn't broke?
I'm looking into Taylor Made irons myself. I borrowed a set to play a round and had a great game right off the bat. They were the R7's. The feel was out standing. Since then I bought a TM Rescue 22 degree hybrid and a R7 Sand Wedge and I absolutely love them. I'm a big TM fan now.
