Buying a set for the lady... Adams advice?

Hoping for some advice here -

My fiancee needs a new set of irons. She has been playing my "starter set", which is men's standard (steel), and has an OK swing, but having trouble getting the ball up in the air - which is starting to frustrate her. She's tall (5'9"-5'10"), so the length suits her fine, but she most definitely needs a more flexible shaft. We tried her on the new Adams Tech OS ladies' which were too short, so the clubfitter gave her the Idea a2 OS senior flex, which were great - flexible shaft, appropriate length. Only thing is we weren't really ready to drop $600 today, since she's still learning, and I want to make sure it's going to "stick" before dropping major coin. Rock Bottom has the Idea a1 set with 3-4 hybrid and 5-PW hollow-back irons for $229, which seems a great deal. I'm wondering how much different these are going to be for her. I will spend a little more if it "worth" it, but if I can expect similar performance out of the slightly older model (especially for a beginner), I'd love to save the cash right now.

My thinking is that having the hybrids and the flexible shafts will be most of the battle, and the change from the slightly older a1 to the a2 will have less impact, but I'd love to hear what any of you with experience with these sets have to say. Thanks!
